The report part of the flag option is mod reviewed @steveTu. The basic flag is supposed to be used for spam, but it's clear that groups of people are using it to remove posts they don't like, which is what has happened with @TheGreenMan 's comment, and also with another recent one. It's also happened on that so called 'joke' thread. The problem with the flag option is that we - the forum members - are monitoring the spam. That isn't actually an acceptable method. If the mods can't do it, there should be appointed mods on the forum to do it, which is what happens on other forums. There's a lot of posting done here which wouldn't be acceptable on any forum, not just a gardening one. Re the flag IDs not being visible but the like IDs are - that wasn't the case when the forum was updated. It's something that suddenly happened- can't remember when. I agree with you - they should both be the same - all visible or all hidden.

The problem is though, if you can see who flagged the post, wouldn't that lay things wide open for further abuse ? Say for example l flagged a post by @Fairygirl because l felt in the mood, she could see that l'd done it and then sent me an abusive PM . (Please note this is for example purposes only, l'm not suggesting for one moment that this would happen 😁.)
The majority of things that l flag are spam, such as the best fertility clinics in such and such. I assume that the mods do check once those threads have been removed, just to make sure that they are genuine spam. As for posts such as the original one on the Gardeners' World thread, (which seems that most people who saw it found to be inoffensive), would that be reinstated if the mods deemed it fair ?. Does the OP receive an explanation as to why it won't be ?
Thanks, Dove. I will stop liking everything on the rose thread lest people realise it is my homepage and I am reading it every time my phone clicks open.😄
I noticed that too @punkdoc! Made me chuckle. Went to the funny thread to see what that was about but felt I had popped into a private conversation and couldn't see any jokes so didn't linger.
Hope we've managed to convince @TheGreenMan to stay.
I know what you mean, but in reality, if it was one or two people flagging you, most folk [the decent ones anyway ] in that position would openly ask the question 'why have you flagged me?' and tag their names in with the '@' so that they could get an answer, and therefore give them a chance to explain. Sometimes it happens by mistake too.
There have been occasions in the past when people with an axe to grind have taken the route of PMing various people, and generally sh*t stirring, but they often get found out and are removed. If it's a 'group attack' - it would happen so quickly, you usually wouldn't get time to see the names. Now and again, the spammers have the cheek to flag the people who report them, which always gives us a laugh.
If anyone gets dubious PMs, trying to get others onside etc, or anything offensive, those should be forwarded to Catherine Mansley or Lily Middleton. You can also screenshot posts/threads.

We have a major problem on here at the moment, some people get posts removed because they are regularly abusive, one of the posters on this thread being a regular example, others seem to be getting posts removed for no reason at all, which I think is because they are being flagged by a small group of neer do wells, of which the infamous bede is the main culprit.
