Specialist Plant Nursery and myself being slightly ' sorry '.

Paul B3Paul B3 Posts: 3,154
Had a trip last Friday to a specialist nursery I had recently found out about .
South of Boston and not far from the A.17 I can honestly say that I have not seen such an array of rare and unusual plants for a long time ; clearly labelled , some with collection numbers and informative / descriptive plant growing details .
I was only 'sorry' because I could not accomodate or provide the correct requirements for some of these beauties .
The first item I saw was a medium sized Glaucidium palmatum (not the sort of thing you find in the average garden centre ) ; a Japanese woodlander requiring exacting conditions .
The variegated Trilliums were rather nice too ;) several Disporums were on offer .
Unusual Ferns were planted alongside specimen Rodgersias etc. in a shaded moist raised bed.
A rather tricky species , Myosotidium hortensia (Chatham Island Forget-me-Not );only one specimen was for sale at £10.00 ; I believe this is extinct in habitat but (yet again) a difficult plant and one I could not give the right conditions . Such a shame as it is rarely seen for sale ; maybe Burncoose sell it .
I could have spent many hundreds of pounds there , but space and growing requisites were (and still are) such limiting factors . My garden is absolutely filled to brimming !
I had to seriously control myself and be satisfied with just two plants , Selinum wallichianum and a nice specimen of Reineckia carnea .
I just wish I'd heard of this nursery years ago .
Thought you may be interested .

Were all the plants for shade and a moist soil? Trying to recall but I think it has featured on TV possibly GW.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Not all for shade & moist soil ; they had several Petasites spp. which I think are tolerant of both . One hell of a variety of plants for sale + their own show garden is well worth a look at .
PS they sell unusual trees & shrubs too .

ah yes, I've been there. Glad to know it's still functioning. I must have another trip. Recommending is fine, the forum spend much time criticising companies, a recommendation must be better.
