Thank you for your suggestions @MikeOxgreen! I am tempted to plant in my planters now as the weather seemed to be stabilising.
I have bought another pack of seeds - should I plant straight into planters or leave them to germinate in my mini greenhouse?
Thanks!
You can plant straight out now. The young leaves are lovely, like Beetroot flavoured baby spinach. Eat raw in a salad or cook. You'll need a lot of plants so you can pinch a few leaves from each without stripping them. You seem to really like beetroot, which is a good thing to be into as it's very adaptable and easy to grow all year round. I sow under cover in late Summer, overWinter it and harvest in Spring. Let some bolt and go to seed then collect them to sow later. Also discover and try different varieties like long ones (which produce more beet per SqM) and golden ones which are a bit less earthy.
I sow my beetroot seeds one or two in these root trainers and plant out when they are bigger enough,I have found with these root trainers you don't have any root disturbanceI use the smaller ones for smaller seeds, and the larger ones for runner beans and broad beans
Last year I took Monty Don's advice and lightly broadcast some beetroot seeds in a small area in a raised bed. The result was the best crop of beetroot I have had to date. BTW, the variety was 'Subeto'

It’s my first time growing beetroot (newbie veg gardener!). Last year I just grew tomatoes (from small plants) and this year I am trying to grow beetroot and courgettes.! Unfortunately my tomato seedlings took too long to germinate and are small at the moment so I am waiting and seeing 🙂
I wanted to grow a second lot incase my first lot didn’t do well, and plus I wanted to try the leaves too. I like (and buy) small beetroot (from Tesco) to eat so wanted to try to grow my own and pick them when they were on the smaller side.
Thank you for the suggestion re bolting and collecting seed - didn’t think of that!
I don’t know much about beetroot but will def want to try some different ones! 👍

@John Harding Thank you, that sounds like an interesting thing to experiment with! So you don’t need to cover them with soil?
I sowed a few more this afternoon using the same method but I just run a rake lightly over them to incorporate them into the soil surface. Fortunately we have a neighbour who overfeeds the local pigeons so they seem to be more interested in making more pigeons than gobbling up my seeds. John H

Ah I understand 👍
I only see two pigeons in my garden, but I’m quite sure they are most of my grass seed recently ☹️
I recently planted them out into a large planter. I didn’t separate the seedlings, just positioned the pots.
But they don’t seem to be flourishing! They took a long time to germinate, then took ages to grow as seedlings… and now every time I water them they seem to flop!

Any advice?
