Tomatoes and plenty of leeks in the garden,  pulled as needed

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • All tomatoes harvested and some ripening in the kitchen. Leeks, beetroot and swiss chard still in the ground and harvested at times. Collected another bucket of medlars. The fruits this year are large. Still some apples on trees but have collected mega amounts and have them storing in the porch.

Those tomato seeds of mine were sown at the end of June,  the first ones all ripened on the plants,  now these to follow,  no idea what they are,  they’re for a supermarket tomato.
It’s been a good year for fruits,  in some areas,  lots of rain in the Spring and a hot dry summer.
We had so many raspberries,  I’ve dug a whole row up and dumped.

  • Took some medlars (bucket full) to friends in the village. While chatting some neighbours walked by...would you like some medlars????? So at the garden club lunch on Saturday another bucket of medlars will be going to good use. They have been so fantastic this year and so grateful that we aren't wasting them. Still one quince hanging on the tree....how did we miss that one?

Don’t birds like Medlars?  Could leave them on the tree if they do.

  • @Lyn not sure but ones on the ground are being eaten by something...slugs/snails/birds?
Picked the largest kiwi (first time it has fruited in mega years). Hard as a rock so doing an experiment and putting it with the bananas with the hope that green tomatoes do ripen with them.
    Sorry about the fuzzy photo.

@bertrand-mabel Glad they you have 🥝 at last! Ours (both Jenny and Issai) must be 6-7 years old now; flowered last 2 seasons, but no fruit yet.

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

  • @Eustace thank you but ours now is over 20 YEARS old!!! It did flower for some years but no fruit. Hopefully you will get some fruit sooner than us.

Thanks @bertrand-mabel 🤞 that we get at least a kiwi next season.
Lots of figs on the tree, but unripe and of no use.
