@alfie, afraid I've never counted! For tall bearded irises at a guess, assuming there are 3 or 4 flower stems per stalk and each stem has 3 flowers which open in turn, I can usually snap each dead flower off 2 or 3 times until the plant stops producing flower buds. So at a conservative guess (if my maths are right) between 20 and 30 flowers in one season?
Just found my iris book which states " strong stems carry 3 or 4 branches and the terminal produces 10-12 flowers in all which open more or less in succession, giving up to 3 weeks of bloom per spike, weather permitting. So a clump of several spikes can flower for a month or more. Flowering usually begins in late spring - mid-May and lasts for some 6 weeks." (RHS Wisley Handbook on Irises).
@Lizzie27 thanks for the detailed info. Oh wow ok, that is a lot. I thought it was just a handful of flowers per plant.
Another red peony popping off in a different border. This one has very sturdy stems some of which sit almost bolt upright. I prefer this one to my other red one. No idea its name:
I'm loving seeing all these gorgeous Iris. I love peonies also but can't justify the space in my garden so have mine away to a customer. That way I still get to see it!
@Marlorena It looks a lot like one I used to have called 'Christabel.' Well, that's the ID I came up with for it, anyway. It had been there for decades so I didn't have any labels or receipts to verify. 'Dauntless' is another similar variety that might be a better match for Wonky's.
@SYinUSA thank you !.. it does look a match for 'Christabel' doesn't it.. I'm not sure if it's available in this country, but I'll remember that name..

Hopefully some others will be open tomorrow..

Hope this makes sense.
