Iris and Peony thread, 2023..

MarlorenaMarlorena Posts: 8,705
I have just 3 Peonies and 4 Iris, so I won't be hogging this thread, but I'd like to see whatever you have.   Season is usually brief for these..

Peony foliage is just gorgeous isn't it..
..this is 'Sea Shell'..

..these Dalmatian Iris have foliage that lasts all summer... just now showing with flower spikes..
Iris pallida 'Argentea'...

Iris pallida 'Variegata'... I'm trying this in a shady border for this year, no idea how that'll work out..

Those irises are gorgeous! Some time ago I unceremoniously moved a peony because it was in the wrong place and now I have two 🙄. I have to say that their autumn appearance is why I have kept them. Will post a photo when in bloom.

    ..thank you !

Oh what a great selection, I love single flowers so that 'Claire de Lune' is a winner for me.. so looking forward to seeing the others in flower too... I've seen some of those recently in pots and I bought a similar one called 'Coral Beach'.. I already have 'Buckeye Belle', that should be flowering shortly..
'Duchesse de Nemours' is a famous one isn't it.. I think so.

I’m looking forward to seeing the tree peony in flower and the Irises. Are tree peonies as straight forward to care for as the herbaceous ones?
Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.

Your 'Pink Hawaiian Coral' is really lovely @Eustace  although it doesn't seem to be correct as you say.. I've been looking at some that are similar but can't really see any that match, and are sold in this country.
Tree Peonies are so exotic looking I think.. wish I had room as I especially like the yellow one.. lutea var. ludlowii..

I think so. I was quite a newbie when I planted them in my previous gardens; bought them comparatively cheap as bareroots and planted them in the ground sometime during late autumn. They came with exotic Chinese names 😊 I'm sure if I dig into my old emails, I'll find their names.

The Pink Hawaiian Coral peony was bought from Jparkers for £3, iirc. 😉
These are photos of the same plant from last 2 years - looks like the neon pink is slowly ebbing.

Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

A fat beige caterpillar ate all of the flower buds on my iris. He left me the casings so that I'd know what I missed😐
    In London. Keen but lazy.
