I'm whatever country'ish I was born in. I only 'like' that country because I was born there - if I had been born elsewhere I would 'like' that country. Isn't that how it works?
For those swearing allegiance - what does that mean? If CIII (like C7) went to war with Scotland, would you still support CIII? Isn't the act the thing that warrants allegiance, not a title? Or else don't you end up like the Tories supporting a bunch of crooks simply because you support Tory'ism?
Yes, I would still support CIII.

I pledged allegiance and support to my Queen years ago, and have no problem with continuing my allegiance to her successor.

I do find that a bit scary. Isn't that simplistically what soldiers do? And there are Chinese soldiers, Russian soldiers - aren't they all just showing allegiance to their leaders, irrespective of where the leaders lead?
Yes, it is simplistically what the armed forces and police do. Each country's forces basically show allegiance to their leaders @steveTu

    And @Hostafan1 it's not brainwashing, it's a personal choice.

Just as I would lay down my life for my wife. It's not brainwashing, it's a choice. Is there not anyone you would die for?

I would give my life for my family.  Wouldn't give the royals the time of day never mind anything else.  As for swearing allegiance - well they do cause me to swear occasionally but that's about it.

...and that is why man never learns and I think there will always be wars - because people are willing to follow others blindly and place allegiance to leaders who may be good or bad.

Going on from my previous posting, regardless of any examples you may see around you of men who are dominating in their marriages, men are responsible to be servant leaders.

Based on Ephesians 5:25, men are to love their wife “as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” In other words, a man should lovingly lead by laying down his life for his wife. That is my responsibility to mine.

You have my full support @rowlandscastle444. Even as a German and not being the youngest there would in case of there is a moment when everyone has to do his/her duty, I would do it because this is what we are.
We are not living on our own. Where would be if everyone would have hidden last century?

I called my parents after 3 o’clock and my dad wasn’t holding back his enthusiasm about what he got to see. The German TV had life coverage from 8:30 on.
Two days ago my mother had refused to watch it. I told her in a short lesson starting with the importance of the faculty of law at the University of Bologna in 1135 and ending with why Princess Ann was right to call the Royal Family a family company. I had obviously contributed to her life, because she listened to me for 10 minutes without interruption, and watched today the 6 hours Coronation.

    I my garden.

I'd give my life for someone who would do the same for me. Family/friends, NOT the royal family.

If I really love my wife, it means that I am her protector, and my love for her (ie, to love and to cherish, etc.) is not reliant on what she will do for me. It is what I will do for her. I promised to. One shouldn't break promises.

Yes, the allegiance to the king is different, I accept, but why do those in the forces fight? For king and country - note, the armed forces do not swear allegiance to the government. It's to the monarch.

What does allegiance mean to you, @Hostafan1

I'm not trying to be difficult, and I realize that you are not pro-royalty - or at least, not pro-Charles, but what DOES spur you on? A Labour government, by the sounds of things.

But would you follow any Labour leader?

And that, ladies and gentlemen of Curmudgeon’s Corner, is the number one thing that winds me up….people who say or write things without thinking them through, most often without thinking AT ALL !

As has often been opined, by much better brains than mine, these people are invited to sit on juries, to vote in elections.  Jeez !….no wonder the world’s in the state it is.
