@agnasia some excellent ideas there, thank you. I’m wondering if it might be better to stick to perennials and let the arch stand as a feature. That’s a Verbena Bonariensis at the back squeezed between the two roses and that might work brought forward as they can easily get to 2m here. Coincidentally I also have a spare white gaura, the big arching type, that would break up the sea of pink nicely!

@punkdoc I don’t think many of us have ‘ England’s Rose’ but I think Marlorena did for a while. Does it have to be an Austin? I’m sure you will get some suggestions later.

Thats beautiful @pitter-patter, such delicate brushstrokes.

I no longer have that rose.  I think Tack might have it..?

Nice arch Nollie, I like the way it's fixed into the stone work... hopefully you'll find something to put up it..

    @punkdoc,

I have lots of Austin's but I don't have England’s Rose. I was once considering it but ended up getting Gabriel Oak and Thomas A Becket.

Gabriel Oak is small in size, it is lovely but defoliates mid season for me. But I have it in a very crowded location so that could be a factor.

Thomas A Becket is very good bloomer but it gets large and needs support and handling.

@purplerallim I just  love  your rose Celebration… but then, I have a ‘ thing’ for the colour yellow. That is a gorgeous colour yellow.
Unfortunately, my rose is underperforming, still no buds and small amount of growth.

@Punkdoc, just looked up 'England's Rose' on the DA website. Introduced back in 2010 so the fact they still sell it must be a good one. It grows 1 m x 1.5 m according to them.

Did you want it just because of the name or the size/colour fits where you want to put it?

    Thank you all.

It is colour an flower type that I am interested in, not bothered about name or the Company that sells it, although I do have a few Austin's
How can you lie there and think of England

@Nollie that sounds ideal and would look lovely with the roses.

@Marlorena or anyone else, can I pick your brain regarding verbascums? I want some but the varieties are confusing. Is chiaxii perennial and phoenicum biennial? What about varieties that only have the variety name? I've been looking at the basic chiaxii album, phoenicum 'White Blush' and phoenicum 'Rosetta'. What are your favourites?

Other favourite tall spike summer perennials that are sturdy/wind-proof and slug-proof?

Regarding roses, I was in Abergele yesterday and saw so many beautiful roses. The whole north Wales coast from Llandudno to Rhyl has so nice micro-climate, they are clearly 2-3 weeks ahead of us.
I should have some rose photos hopefully after the weekend.
