@agnasia your Bridge of Sighs looks fantastic. You have trained almost like the original BoS. @purplerallim can't wait to see your BfY in all its glory.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
In exciting news, I just got an email from Trevor White to say Evelyn was back in stock so I have ordered one! So if anyone else is interested be quick!
Such an incredible number of varieties of roses posted to this discussion! My modest contribution today is a couple of flowers from my R. Sourire d'orchidée which is covered in buds and has just started to open a few today. Lovely scent too, faint but subtle.
Well Operation Hide ‘Ugly Betty’ is complete, with the installation of an arch to join the screening trellis to the main rose bed. Looking out from the seating area next to the house, the very practical but prominently ugly Skoda Yeti was distracting me from the roses.
It is crying out for a rose or clematis and there is space. However, the stone gets very hot in the sun and either would fry as the top of the metal arch will be exposed to burning sun most of the day in summer. I’m keeping my eye out for a solanum, which might cope. Otherwise I could fill the gap with some perennials. Any other thoughts or ideas welcome!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Thanks @Nollie, although I’ll wait until it’s arrived to properly celebrate!
I love your arch! The trellis is fab too. I don’t know how they do in strong heat but Jasmine and honeysuckle came to mind. Verbena, stipa, gaura and scabious are lovely, or the obvious options of salvia or lavender. Or do you want to keep the emphasis on the roses? I’m a complete novice so I’m sure others will have better ideas.
