Of the roses listed in your fragrance list @Nollie, I have only 1 from each group. For me, GJ wins hands down in terms of fragrance. Next comes Chandos Beauty 😍.

@daisym I think Desdemona or Chandos Beauty will be a good fit for that pot.

Hi @daisym - I think your pot is a little on the small side for a rose. You'd probably manage it but it would be a lot more work in terms or watering, feeding and regular repotting to keep it looking good.

Might be better to invest in a larger one before you stick a rose in it. Especially as you're wanting a good shrub or even short climber.

Probably a bit of a longshot, but are there any rose that thrive in a permanently moist soil?

@alexander.wade .  With that length of fence you could have both! Is the bottom of the planter open to the soil? If not, that might restrict your choices a bit.

Everything except ferdinand pichard and boule de neige has buds on now, but none as far along as VdB

@Eustace Yes. Both those roses do appeal to me. I just think they may be too small for the area. Perhaps @Mr. Vine Eye is quite right and that pot would be more suited to something else.
I have just watched the David Austin video on planting a potted rose and he suggests 45cm x 45cm. So that is one decision made! Still to decide on the rose.
Thank you for all the help.
