Of the roses listed in your fragrance list @Nollie, I have only 1 from each group. For me, GJ wins hands down in terms of fragrance. Next comes Chandos Beauty 😍.

Hi @daisym - I think your pot is a little on the small side for a rose. You'd probably manage it but it would be a lot more work in terms or watering, feeding and regular repotting to keep it looking good.
Might be better to invest in a larger one before you stick a rose in it. Especially as you're wanting a good shrub or even short climber.
first off I must apologise for need being around for a while! Very busy studying for my final accounting exam!
Anyway thought I would provide an update after all the advice I receive regarding a cloning rose on the front of my house.
Lady of the lane is in and sorry I can’t understand why my images go sideways on the phone!
First but to open was James L Austin however I did find a caterpillar having a munch! Also having lots of slug issues!
And finally I have a new planter and have put wires along the fence and am unsure if to go for clematis across it or roses! Would roses work? It’s 8m would I need a rose either end?
@alexander.wade . With that length of fence you could have both! Is the bottom of the planter open to the soil? If not, that might restrict your choices a bit.
@Eustace Yes. Both those roses do appeal to me. I just think they may be too small for the area. Perhaps @Mr. Vine Eye is quite right and that pot would be more suited to something else. I have just watched the David Austin video on planting a potted rose and he suggests 45cm x 45cm. So that is one decision made! Still to decide on the rose. Thank you for all the help.
