@Marlorena I have ‘Dannahue’ and so far so good. It’s very floriferous continually producing buds to replace finished flowers, a bit like The Lark Ascending, only the flowers last slightly longer. It has a beautiful scent, don’t ask me to describe it I’m not good at that kind of thing. It was gifted to me by a friend and is currently in a pot until I can clear a space for it in my front garden. I think the trouble is people are comparing it to Jude The Obscure, which I also have, and they shouldn’t. Jude has a stronger scent however ‘Dannahue’ flowers in higher numbers.
@rossdriscoll13 Thank you Ross, that sounds mostly positive. Mine would be a gift too but at least one of my own choosing.. I rather like the foliage on this rose and continuity of bloom is a bonus..
@Tack The Prince is reluctantly on notice here too. In higher temps it just can’t cope - shrivelled blooms and badly scorched foliage. I’ll move it to a shady pot ghetto and wait and see though, it’s so glorious in the right conditions.
@Alfie_ how thorny is Champagne Moment? I don’t mind thorns but if it’s as spiteful and wicked as Golden Beauty I would hesitate, despite it being such a bloom machine.
We actually got a few drops of rain this morning and the cooler temps are welcome. Roses are rallying, if still showing some after-effects of their barbecuing..
Flamenco Rosita (Ivor’s Rose), very healthy and never without at least a few blooms. It could be so much better if it weren’t crammed into a too-small space:
Mme. Antoine Mari, likes warm, dry conditions, otherwise it has a serious hissy fit:
Palais Biron is exposed to more weather extremes than the other two but copes far better.. and that fragrance
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I do love your Mme Antoine Mari, Nollie. It sounds as though it would have flourished here last summer but not this year. Nothing but rain and wind here for weeks till today. But Penelope Lively didn't blink (from a couple of days ago)
Today, Souvenir du Dr Jamain from Cottage Memories has finally opened after a couple of false starts and the scent is delightful. It will hopefully have enough shade there and not be swashed to a sizzle. It has just hit 16° which apparently is as summery as it's going to get here!
Galway Bay from Trevor White hasn't been without a bloom since it came into flower.
Sarah from C and K Jones after a lengthy pause
And my latest waste of money... yet another alstroemeria even though I have never yet managed to get these to overwinter successfully. Perhaps red will be my lucky colour.
I am liking all the photos of Penelope Lively. How is its fragrance?
With the rains I am hoping when come back home, I wont loose any perennials and roses would be all lush with serious need of deadheading of all spent or ugly flowers.
Staying indoors these days with my knitting project warming my lap. Only 13 degrees outside with torrential rains coming whenever I just put on my garden clothes. The rain opened a lot of the vole tunnels. It or they are still there. Killed Kathryn, felled a dahlia and are nibbling on Olivia Rose. In another bed, comfrey is the murderer of Lady Emma Hamilton. Roses root deep. Hahaha says the comfrey. I cannot get to the bottom of that root. Yet. But I will.
A few pages back: speechless to read that Austin disposes of their labelled roses on a public dump. And very disappointed not to live near that dump just for a moment. On the bright side: TCL confirmed both, my order and my request to add a Lady Emma Hamilton if they find one in their stock. Hooray.
Mauve corner, left to right Pacific Blue, Petit Prince and Love Song, still without scent.
Ignoring the pelting rain, Blackberry Nip.
Pacific Blue and Perovskia
Ever wondered how the poppies move around in the flower beds? This is how.
@Newbie77 Penelope Lively has a lovely fruity scent in the sunshine (sadly lacking recently)
@ElbFee sorry to hear about ongoing vole woes. And I hope you can replace Kathryn- you are the only other person I know who grows it! What kind of birds are those? And do you know what your clematis is there with Blackberry Nip (stunning pic). I have the same one growing with Bathsheba and while the label said "Daniel Deronda " it looks a tiny bit different from the online pics of it.
Nothing would help if you hangout here . Couple of days ago my DH was saying we should put proper stairs to the roof (we live in a flat roof art-deco style house) and immediately I started thinking about a rooftop rose garden lol.
@newbie77, I can relate! I now seem to divide my garden into spots where roses can grow and all the other (not so interesting) spots. Rooftop rose garden sounds amazing!
@Tack sad to see The Prince on your probably go list. That's purely because having seen those wonderful pictures of yours in full bloom and the difficulties I had to get hold of it. If you decide to get rid of it please let me know! I am happy to accommodate the third one at home. I hope you are not far from Oxford.
Most of my roses are resting here. I really hate the pictures taken on iPhone 14 pro (my iPhone 7 pictures are much better and showing true colours). Visibly it somehow alternates the shades.. when I look at them, the flowers look dull and papery.

What does everyone feed their roses. I've been using vitax organic rose food twice a year and miracle gro all purpose liquid feed every few weeks. I'm not a very experienced rose grower but have about 14 roses now and am interested to know if I'm doing the best for my roses. Some more ingrid bergman and sommergold
