Cheers, some respite would be wonderful @PeterAberdeen but currently bracing for the worst. Not a lot you can do about sawfly except pick off the worst leaves and give Gertie a tonne of water and maybe try liquid seaweed to induce new growth - she might be drier than you think near the wall..
@Pam285 Lady Em looks a bit thirsty and perhaps a too-small pot?
Not much action in the East garden now, but a couple bucking the trend..
Flamenco Rosita (Ivor’s Rose) is a trooper:
Love Song, more pink now but ignoring the heat:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
We've had wild winds here and Lady of Shalott lost a flowering stem. The central flower was lovely for several days, and one of the remaining buds has now opened unexpectedly. Small but perfectly formed.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
@Nollie I don’t have a bigger pot so I think I’m going to put her in the main garden instead. The soil does feel damp but the pot does feel warm with the heat.
Must be very scented in your garden with all the lovely lillies @PeterAberdeen!
Gentle Hermione oppened her first bloom today. Very strong scent.
Believe, I accidently IDed my unknown very scented rose.
Same colour, same scent, same petals, same prickles and same basal colour. This is another Hermione, isn't it? Another rose that cannot read its label as it grows to at least 180cm.
I still have established roses that only now start their first flush like Eyeconic.
Crawling around the yellow sector I noticed that Rose des Cisterciens aborted growth it is dying. That is number 2 leaving me
Just transplanted into main garden bed. Only planted as bare root this spring and roots were almost down to the bottom of the pot. Found Falstaff label on root stock which I’d inadvertently left on. Another mislabel from TCL.
@Eustace it’s a good job I’m running out of room. I don’t seem to have a lot of luck with roses in pots. I’ve got a Summer Song and Camille Pissaro in pots and both will need to go in a border in the autumn as they look as though they are running out of room. Turns out I got a second Summer Song so I plan to put them both together to get a bigger impact. It’s certainly a learning curve.
If you’ve got space in the ground @Pam285 that’s the best place for them. Roses in pots are great (I have too many so can’t talk) but you do need to give them a lot more food and water and repot every few years to refresh the potting medium - at some point just topping up the compost in the pot is not enough. Oh and hot pots gently cook roots!
Ah, TCL strikes again.. not the only one struggling to manage their inventory it seems, but they do seem to have the mislabelled rose down to a fine art..
Buff Beauty is miserable, unhealthy and bare below (another fur coat and no knickers rose). Not convinced this will ever by happy in my climate. It gets one more year:
Avalanche Abricot, a ground cover rose, in theory. My most successful Delbard to date. Side view:
Something’s had a munch on the bud of this Munstead Wood:
Empereur Charles IV (standard), early days but I think I’m going to like this rose:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
