One rose I’ve been eyeing up for a while to start expanding my old roses is Blush Noisette. I don’t have an old rose climber. Does anyone have this or able to comment on what they think of it?
@Alfie_ Blush Noisette is one of my favourites. It's a disease-free, non-stop bloomer with a delightful scent. It gets criticised for not letting go of old blooms but I just give it a bash or shake if I haven't got time to deadhead. The canes are very flexible and easy to place where you want them.June last year, planted summer 2020
Thank you to @Mr. Vine Eye for mentioning the cheap clematis. I just nabbed nice Daniel Deronda (lilac) and Volcano (reddish) plants from Lidl for a few pounds each.
PS. Should clematises be pinched out and if so at what stage? I read conflicting ideas about this.
Blush Noisette in Sept, you can see some old blooms and just how many buds to come. It has a long seasonOops I made a new post rather than editing the one for @Alfie_
I meant to post just Nollie,s pic No1, but screwwed it up. If I were in the business, I would try to raise a strain of longer lasting coloured leaf roses. They would certainly rival Pieris or Photinia.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand. "Have nothing in your garden that you don't know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."
Just to add to Tack's post... 'Blush Noisette' is a versatile rose, I've had it as a shrub about 5 x 6',..as a short climber and even as a shorter rambler allowed to scramble.. I've also seen it on an arch.. I find the scent is of cloves which wafts nearby.. I no longer have it here, but one of the great old roses with such history and continuous flowering..
