I went to Snowshill once, years ago. I thought the garden was charming and the interior "interesting".
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

@JennyJ, you can say that again!  We were amazed at the sheer quantity and variety of exhibits, including the floor of Chinese warriors. Mind boggling.

I especially liked the costume exhibits with the very Jane Austenish dresses and tiny embroidered shoes with heels. The guide told us that they had 4000 costumes in storage so couldn't exhibit them all.

Charles Wade was definitely an obsessive collector of anything he could lay his hands on - a very peculiar character in the best tradition of English eccentrics.
North East Somerset - Clay soil over limestone

I remember wondering how long it must take to dust all the stuff! I expect Mr Wade didn't worry about such things :D.

A few photos from the rose garden at Dunham Massey have been posted here.

I reckon that the roses will be in full flush in another 2 weeks.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

Definitely. Loved the variety, the oddity.
I collect things, but my wife is so relieved it doesn't go that far!! We've only got a three bedroom house.
