This is the time of year when I'm really glad that my garden isn't as big as I used to think I would like it to be.
I know that feeling. Unfortunately my garden is as big as I used to want it to be. Now it's a battle to get it back under control after a couple of years when I could do very little out there.

Had a telephone consultation with the GP practice physio on Tuesday morning, and have been referred for an x ray of my dodgy hips. An appointment has arrived in the post this morning, for an appointment in ten days time, and on a Sunday! Very impressed.
Had an unexpected RTBC this morning. A couple of days ago I emailed the Irish health service because they had invited feedback on my stay in hospital. I'd spent most of my time on a trolley (the hospital is desperately overcrowded) and had some ideas for how life could be improved... I was very complimentary about the staff, who were wonderfully kind and efficient, but rather less so about a system which left me in a corridor for 4 days and 3 nights with inadequate washing facilities, among other things. I was delighted to be phoned this morning by the ward manager to tell me exactly how they were going to improve things, as a direct result of my feedback... she explained how easy it was, not to see the person behind the patient. I was touched by her honesty.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Great to hear a positive story about the GP system. Unfortunately they do seem pretty rare. My brother-in-law had a hip replacement 6 or 7 years ago, and it went well. In the past 12 months he's been experiencing sharp pain in the same hip, and it started very suddenly, which reminded him that his surgeon had said he should have an x-ray after 5 years, which didn't happen. He phoned the surgery about that, got a call back with a face to face appointment but when he arrived it was with a physio. Very short consultation where he was told it was just his age, and no mention of x-ray. He is still battling to get the problem investigated properly. As he says, if they pain had come on slowly he would still want the x-ray but would agree it was probably just his age. When the pain is sudden he questions that.
I probably should have said that I first tried to get an appointment with the GP! First available consultation was telephone only, and not until mid May! I could have had a face to face appointment with the physio today, but I’m isolating before a hospital admission on Monday, so went for the earlier phone appointment instead. Still, I’m very pleased with the outcome, and very impressed that the x ray department in our local ‘cottage’ hospital is working on a Sunday.

Fingers crossed the plumber can get here and "bleed" the boiler for me.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
