However, I'm really annoyed at the moment. 🤬 I've just finished using my new ironing board (37 days old ) and was attempting to put it away and the whole thing has just completely fallen apart on me. I am not happy at all. In fact, I'm very angry. It took me ages to find one that will fit in the under stairs cupboard so I'll have to start researching a new one all over again. This one will be going back from whence it came.😡
It's a metal mesh one, ,the modern type ones which are terribly built with plastic bits and not at all sturdy. OH has had a look at it and it can't be mended. He would have mended if he could. Not to worry, I've found another one on-line so I've ordered it. It's more like my old one with only two legs ( instead of four) in the shape of a T so I'm just hoping it will be ok. We were only saying to the BT man the other day, how things aren't made to last nowadays compared to the things made 40-50 years ago. So frustrating. I know, in the big scheme of things, it's nothing compared to what some folks are going through, but it was still annoying.
Good afternoon all. Lovely to see you SGL. How are you and your OH doing? Well, I do hope.
Ante - David Suchet is sublime as Poirot. No one else can play him as well as he does.
Hazel, you are just not having a lucky week at all. That board sounds like a real heap of junk to me. I have one of those with an attached seat that folds up flat. I use it as a sewing table as it only gets used once every 5 years or so for its original purpose. It is over 40 years old and yes, I have had to replace its covers quite a lot and also I had to remove the old asbestos plate where the hot metal thing used to stand - that gives you some idea of its age. You are right about the poor quality and inbuilt obsolescence of many of today's modern items but 37 days is pushing it a bit.
Happy to read you have found another one. I remembered that you were constrained to a certain size.
Well, I faced snow, hail, sleet and rain here today. Falling on the frozen ground had turned untreated areas into death traps. I did my best Torville and Dean impression, approaching my car before driving home, then looked around shiftily so I could pretend I had really MEANT to do that, if anyone had seen me. Main roads were brilliant thanks to the gritters.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
It's been a bit difficult getting here today. Signal not good on mobile and no Internet until phone cable is repaired. Then when there was a signal OH hogged the phone!
NDN, K, is a bit better. M & S, who are the neighbours that I phoned on the other side helped K onto the sofa, nothing broken just that her legs wouldn't work. Then S waited with K for the ambulance. S rang 999 again and was told that the wait was 23 hours not 3 hours, but the ambulance turned up at 10.30pm. They wouldn't take K to hospital, they said it wasn't life threatening like a heart attack. When they lifted K she managed to stand and shuffle a bit. They said they would arrange for an assessment and maybe that would lead to care of some sort. S said she managed to get K to bed when they'd gone and she is arranging a rota to neighbours to pop round. She took K a casserole and fed her cat.
Good news about our cottage though, M went and checked it for burst pipes and it's fine. The heating was still on at 12°.
We went to another Carol Service this morning, coffee and Stollen after it.
I agree with you all about David Suchet - best Poirot ever!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
LB it will be good for you to be together on the 30th in remembrance of your brother. Sending a hug. Had to go out today black ice on the paths and roads, very slippery indeed. Hopefully temps will rise although snow is forecast. We could do with sunshine to melt the ice, hazardous out. LB glad your back home after your trip out and you too found it rather hazardous. Well I’ve put my night clothes on after tea and relaxing on the bed for a little one. Lilys tv all sorted. I feel exhausted. His Dark Materials is scheduled tonight and Strike by J K Rowling. Lily hope you and oh are keeping warm and hope feeling a little better. Hope all sleep well. Ante the candles can put you in quite a reflective mood and it is looking very cosy.
Oh my goodness Busy, I got a lot confused as I did assume you were talking about a NDN in France. That does make things a lot clearer. Good news that all is fine with your cottage in Norfolk. You need to come home next month with all being ready for you to just step into.

LB, from your last post I took it to read that you'd had a fall, is that right? If so I do hope you'll be okay and are taking it easy now. The day of remembrance will be lovely for you all if not emotional. Chin up and bring some good memories of your brother to mind. Rosie, I agree we could do with some sunshine but take it steadily whilst out on the ice. Too easy to fall over with such treacherous conditions about. Busy, glad your NDN isn't hurt or has broken bones, such a relief and what lovely neighbours you have back in the UK to look after her.
Rosie, I watched all the earlier series of Strike and am enjoying this one. I will be watching His Dark Materials too. I was dipping in and out of the World Cup Final but got immensely fed up with the so called pundits in the BBC studios. Listening to their commentary, you would have thought that there were only two players playing against each other - Messi and Mbappe. Where are you @Biglad when I want to have a rant?
Anyway, thank goodness all that nonsense is finished with now. Sorry to any football fans out there.
