  • Best wishes and fingers very crossed 🤞 for your friend @tui34 … hopefully she’ll join the many many folk who live long and healthy lives following treatment for bowel cancer. @WonkyWomble and I know someone who took up marathon running following her colostomy … but that’s not compulsory, apparently … thank goodness.

Actually @Dovefromabove   She is 72 and runs/walks about 3 times a week, does yoga, eats a healthy diet.  It's in our genes.

    Thanks for your reply.
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

  • Good morning everyone, definitely much colder again this morning,  fortunately the sun has made an appearance so hopefully it will warm up a bit. Have a good day all.

Good morning all. Cold and frosty here but it is nice to see the sun. Birds have eaten everything I put out yesterday morning, so I will go out now to refill. Started food shopping for Christmas, there are only going to be 3 of us with one vegan, so we will all go veggie this year.
Best wishes for your friend @tui34. If she has a healthy lifestyle it will be quicker for her to recover after the op.
@punkdoc how distressing. The journey to Scotland will be fine and all the rats will be dead on your return. They can't survive the poison.

    Take care all

    Hi all

Late on parade today after late night at friends.
Bitterly cold again, don’t think it is due to thaw for the next week.
No rat activity overnight, hopefully a good sign.

Opened the curtains to snow this morning. Just a light dusting on the drive and the rooftops, but definitely snow falling. Didn’t last long, and it’s brightening up now, but only just above zero at 9.30am. The big disc of ice I pushed out of the bird bath yesterday, is still lying on the ground, frozen solid.
House jobs today. I made 18 pigs in blankets yesterday and put them in the freezer, feeling very virtuous! However, I’ve just realised that I may be too late to get my Christmas cards away in time, given all the strikes lined up. Maybe time to consider a festive phone call in the next couple of weeks instead. Last time I did that though, the first few friends I called were in the middle of various crises. Left me feeling very depressed, and also worried that I was intruding at a bad time. Reverted to cards again that year.
  • No sun here sadly @coccinella .. still freezing fog, although it's lifted a bit.  OH is at work now and I've decided to give myself a day off ... next week I'll make pastry for mince pies and sausage rolls etc, and plan the other 'cook ahead' Christmas things.  We're not having Christmas pud ... I've had a request for Apple Crumble and ice cream, and I'll make a tiramisu as well ... and I'll make a proper almond topped Dundee cake instead of an iced cake ... we don't need all that sugar, and to be perfectly honest we don't really like it all that much either.   Unusually for me, I've put morning TV on and am enjoying watching Rick Stein in Shanghai ... very tempted to do something 'Chinese-ish' for supper ... 🤔

Morning all. Well our frosted, freezing ground from yesterday never thawed at all and now it's snowing - big fat flakes falling heavily and fast! And I still have to pop down the mountain side to the village shop (slip sliding away) for my once a week Saturday paper and TV programme guide, plus some fresh veg, bananas and a birthday card for a friend. Should be fun. Daughter is off across the fields to take hay to the pony gang plus two dustbins of water because the water tanks are frozen plus all the connecting pipes. She's going to look a bit like a snowman by the time she returns!
Think I might be joining you in your veranda @Pat E if you dont mind some company? Safe journey punkdoc steady as you go.
Stay safe and warm everybody, we dont need any accidents this close to Christmas.
