Good morning everyone . So pleased to see you this morning LB ,you were missed. We are all here for you . Welcome Red maple . Lovely to see you Lily .I love the smell of live Christmas trees but having three cats makes it impossible.Debs and LB I hope if you buy a real tree your cats leave it alone .Busy I have finished writing my cards . I hope to get cards and parcels posted on the first available day in December . Busy so sorry to read that you lost your brother at such a young age .
Morning all. Lovely to see you LB and in your post, you mentioned the ( nearly) very words that my mum is always saying to me( after her grandfather said them to her as a youngster) , just keep ( carry ) on keeping( carrying) Β on. Hard sometimes but in essence it's all we can do. We'll help you along. The brushed cotton duvet and warmer pj's are wonderful. I'm so so warm now, it's lovely. Were off out to get the remaining slabs and sand this morning for OH to finish path, but only when dry and warm, he's on strict orders not to go out in the cold. We've had to cancel our order for a new rug due to availability of stock and we've waited long enough for it now. The other one we got is nice enough anyway. The sun is out this morning and no wind, hurray!Β
BTW LB, 23 always talks about the lego Spider-man and Green Goblin he helped grandpa make, he's a " builder" in the making and when OH told him these would all be his one day, his little eyes shone up but he said" oh, grandpa, but they're yours, you keep them"..... one day 23 will get them.
SGL, thanks for the strike days information, we really must get going with doing our cards, keep putting them off. Take care and thinking of you.Β
Must get going now, have a good one everyone and take.
Good morning SGL. That list of dates is good information to have - thank you.
Debs, don't forget the mince pie and glass of sherry whilst writing cards. I am going to let all the people I cannot hand deliver cards to that from next year it will be e-cards only.
Morning Ruby, you get the gold star for being 'best organised' this season.

LB, yes, I think 23 will look after them well and bring some lovely memories up for him. We popped out after receiving a text saying our click and collect was ready( instead of tomorrow), really pleased as it was a last minute decision to get our eldest three granddaughters one of those ( very on trend things) oversized blankets hoodies, for Christmas, Β should help to keep them warm over winter. They're lovely and soft.......I'm tempted.! Mesnwhile, whilst the sun has been out, OH has gone out and finished the path! He's very pleased as now all the winter jobs are done and he can relax. Back breaking work though and lumping heavy bags of sand, ( topsoil), and slabs etc certainly isn't for the faint hearted. Have had a lovely chat with my mum, woke her up ( oops!) but she recovered well and , as usual, we ended up having a good laugh together. so hope so I can be like her if and when I get to 101!Β Rubee, oh you're a champ getting the cards all written, puts me to shameπ¬
Debs, don't worry, there is no spam in your thread about Christmas trees. Papi jo posted photo of Normand fir and mentioned me, so I and several others just replied.Β
SGL, it's also nice to see you too. Hope you are well.
It's sunny, but getting cold. It will be windy next few days, according to forecast. My waterlily arrived, without any notification. I just found small packet in my front yard. To be honest, it's not what I was expecting, and it doesn't worth money which is paid for it. Just small piece of rhizome, barely 5 cm long.Β
Next Tuesday I must take one day off and go to Zagreb(our capital). My neighbor passed away two days ago and funeral is there. He lived during winter in Zagreb, and rest of the time here. I'm not too happy, because I drove in city only once , and it was a huge mess. Hope this time will be better.Β Β
Good afternoon to you all, and thank you for the welcome.
Β Itβs been a lovely day here today, dry with some sunshine and blue sky which has made a pleasant change from the weather of the last few.
Popped into town today to buy a door curtain for the door in the kitchen that leads into the garage. Quite a draft blows in, despite tape fitted down the side and a new garage main door (which has helped considerably). Hopefully, this extra layer will help, too.
Sorry to read about your neighbour @Ante1. I hope your journey into Zagreb will not be as bad as you fear. A disappointment for you regarding your water lily, but perhaps it will perk up and spread once it is settled into its home.
Thank you for the postal strike dates SGL. I must get on and write mine and put them in the post very soon (though I am cutting back this year).
Well Iβd better go, Iβve got some dumplings to make to go in the beef stew I have simmering away in the slow pot for tonightβs dinner.
Ante, I'm so sorry to hear about your neighbour. I hope the journey into the Capital won't be too bad for you but it will be good for you to pay your respects despite the environment .Did he live near to you? Also, what a disappointment about the water lily. I suppose it may well just be a small rhizome at this time of year ( if taken off a mother plant) but expectations can be high and then be disappointing. Hopefully it will come good as it gets potted up and has the time to grow.Β @Red maple, we used to have a curtain across the door into the ( integral) garage which was very helpful in keeping the draughts down. I deliberately left it long too so it draped across the floor in front of the door so no draught creep underneath the curtain if Β left higher up off the floor. (We do miss having an integral garage in our new home)
Hi @Red maple, warm welcome to the Rezz. Hope new curtain will help prevent the draft. Btw, I will have stew for lunch tomorrow. π
Hazel, he have house right behind my which he bought 22 years ago. He has wife and doughtier and no other relatives. Hope they will come to live in my town when they settle everything.Β
Good afternoon all. After being such a horrible day yesterday it was rather nice today - a bit like Red maple's sounds. I removed 3 large branches from a lilac in the front garden - green bin is now full again after being emptied yesterday. I was just good to be out in the fresh air doing a job that required, loppers, a saw and secateurs. Afraid to say I had the old smug face on!
Hazel, just go for it and treat yourself to one of those oversized hoodies. Well done to your OH for getting all of that labouring finished. Nice dry feet for you now when you have to hang out the wet cloth things and for moving up and down the garden. I am pleased that you had a nice catch up and laugh with your Mum. She sounds a wonderful lady
Ante, I would be disgusted with such a teeny rhizome. They need a severe letter of complaint from you. The length of time it has been in the post - as I hinted at earlier - could have led to the poor plant just dying. Can you see any signs of growth? I am so sorry to hear about your neighbour. Like you, I am not keen on driving through big cities and I avoid them. Would it be possible to park a bit outside of Zagreb and then catch a bus in to the funeral?
Red maple - stew and dumplings - one of my all time favourite meals and such a lush winter warmer. Coincidentally I am going to look for some new curtains for my living room. The whole front of my living room is glass and taking tips from TV I need to close curtains to keep warmth in so heavier curtains are called for. wish me luck!
