I scrape the top layer of compost for potted roses and top up the compost/JI3 every year, as there is some shrinkage. Moreover, the roses need to be repotted every 3 or 4 years. It's a big task I have this year, as many of my potted ones are ready for repotting :(
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

I’ve sworn off reds and HTs though @purplerallim, mine have +40c, searing Saharan winds and hot stone walls to contend with, basically hostile conditions that test any rose! You can whack your Ruby Wedding HT down to 4-6” no problem, it will shoot back up and flower on the new growth.

I have a mass of repotting to do this year too, in fact one is overdue by at least two years!

A local friend (the lady who gave me the Lark) was throwing out the Pilgrim, William Shakespeare 2000, Prospero, Nostalgia, William&Catherine, Susie and Sugar Moon... so it looks like I have some digging to do. She told me I can bin them if I want. I don't want.😁

I already have ws2000 on order so may swap that for something else from TW if they let me.

We all have such different experiences of the same rose. My Heidi Klum started very healthy, good fragrance and bloomer. So much so I considered putting her in the ground, but it all went sharply downhill after that. She did perk up considerably after a tonne of food and rainwater, then slumped again. I decided she was just far too difficult and demanding!

You can put them on Olio and Freecycle etc. I imagine someone would snap them up.

I'm giving away Malvern Hills and possibly Edith Cavell.
