Good to hear from those we haven’t for a while - Victoria, Omori.. but no word from @Fire for ages, hope all is well Fire?
Who has Versigny, I had a feeling it was you @newbie77? Can whoever has it give me the lowdown on overall performance and tell me if you think it would do well in a pot? I’m trying to plan how to accommodate the ridiculous number of roses I ended up ordering!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
-6C last night, -3 at the moment.. 'Mutabilis' totally frozen today.. ..ghostly Pennisetum orientale.. I never knew I had so many spiders in this garden, pity the poor insects flying around here in summer..
Incidentally, talking of spiders, if you ever lose your satellite signal and wonder why, check out the dish, because I have an annoying spider who nests inside the apparatus where the signal comes in, and every so often we lose the signal. I get up there on ladders as it's not too high to access, and I have to scoop him out plus any remains of whatever.. then all is well, but he comes back again. I can't kill him, but I hope he gives up eventually..
We've had a dusting of snow here this morning and it got me thinking back to winters at secondary school. We'd all grab a rock, pack snow around it and have a snowball fight. Kids dropping like flies. Good times.
Here's one of my Fellowship (Harkness) floribunda roses, still trying to bloom. Bought 12 months ago as bare root. They have exceeded expectation in that they bloomed early and finished late and almost reached mature height already. A thorny rose but i love orange and thorns. Scent was not as strong as stated but i'm wondering if it's because it's only in its first year? Surprised to see DA no longer stocking this one...
I've just seen Ronnie O'Sullivan at the garden center. I think he was eyeing up a plant.
I have a bare-root (Forever Royal) arriving today...early Christmas present from my daughter....the hole for it is dug but the garden is frozen solid with a dusting of snow. Is it better to leave it in its packaging or stick it in a bucket of water in the garage till the thaw sets in?
Thanks. That is a very cute spider actually! And amazing photography @Mr. Vine Eye.
@Nollie , my versigney is in a large pot. It is two years old and doesn't look like it is outgrowing soon. I had seen photos of it on Google in a pot in someone's balcony. You can plant in a pot but don't let it see your GJ 😂
It would be better unpacked and in a bucket of water in the garage as long as you're sure it won't freeze in there, otherwise I'd put the bucket somewhere cool in the house.
Hope the rose does well for you. I've got a potted rose sitting in my little greenhouse that I wanted to plant as well but that will have to wait. We've got snow today!

Is it still worth cutting back and mulching or wait until the frost pulls back?

Hope you're feeling better today Nollie..
Some spider action has become evident here, but not as impressive.
