Thanks, @Victoria Sponge, for the helpful pics. I haven't finalised the order yet as I seem to be in dither mode and now am def rethinking that one! Hope it comes good for you next year. We probably only have two more years in this garden at most so I'd prefer roses to look good as quickly as possible. (Greedy)
Thanks for the new thread @Nollie! We will need an inaugural Smudge photo 😀 And lovely autumn colours @Mr. Vine Eye
We hardly had any rain all summer but I kept on top of watering, and now that it’s been raining on and off the roses appear to be in good form, leaf wise. The angle of the sun has changed and my south facing border (surrounded closely by new build houses) is getting less and less sunlight each day, which has slowed flowering right down. I used up all my Envii Seafeed Xtra on the roses a couple of weeks ago, and will mulch with manure compost this weekend.
Flower Carpet Pink and Vanessa Bell are going for now; salvia Amistad will take over in the colder months
Thanks all, and Vic for volunteering for Spring 😊 I should say I’ve only been growing roses in a serious (i.e. obsessed) way since 2017 so I’m by no means an expert!
Great crabapples Mr. V, mine didn’t evens set fruit this year.
Athelas, wow, it’s amazing how fast your garden is maturing, it looks really well established now. Smudge has only been here a week, but she is into everything and already bossing around poor uncle Bill Will post some pics soon..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I’m continually conducting trials to find what works in my climate. A mix of blazing summers, freezing winters, monsoon rains and high humidity (with associated high disease pressures) is a challenge for any rose, so I have got through a lot in a relatively short space of time! This year’s casualties are a mix of new and old:
Diamond Eyes Heidi Klum
Dee-Lish/Sweet Parfum de Provence etc. Folle de Courtisane Super Trouper Deep Secret Excellenz von Schubert Noella Nabonnand Mutabilis Warm Welcome Kew Gardens William Shakespeare 2000 (surplus 2 sent in error)
Roses that have impressed from the outset:
Ghislaine de Feligonde (standard) Lady Hillingdon Alistair Stella Gray Souvenir de Marcel Proust Mme. de Sévigné
Second Chance Pot Hospital:
Ebb Tide Avalanche Abricot

I didn’t get very much new growth this year so that probably explains it @Mr. Vine Eye, that and the crazy weather, which it really didn’t enjoy.
I do think DA are shooting themselves in the foot by getting rid of Munstead Wood and Lady Emma Hamilton. They both have their faults but the sumptuous colour of the former and the stunning fragrance of the latter are reason enough to keep them.
My Munstead Wood trio is looking extremely healthy for this time of the year:

It shouldn't have taken till page 2 for a picture of Smudge!😍
DA also withdrew the Alnwick Rose, a Shropshire Lad, as well as LEH, MW and Jude- seems it was a wide-ranging axe-chop. Ah well. I can always move back home to New Zealand and buy Munstead Wood there if I'm that bothered, I suppose.😁

Got my new memory card so can take photos again!

Just a few flowers now from Olivia Rose Austin

So I suppose I won't be growing them.
Plenty more roses in the sea, though
Edit... also Jude, which I dislike but which is popular.
Hope some other grower steps in for those who want these roses.

So I expect the areas you can see crab apples on now won't have any next year and vice versa.
