@JessicaS I haven’t see Sophie Rochas in the flesh, only on Delbard’s website:

Big blooms and very fragrant, apparently..

@Alfie_ in addition to the many suggestions in the previous few posts, if you are looking for 🐝 friendly purple roses, Weg der Sinne and Royal Celebration are worth a look.

Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

  • My Twice in a Blue Moon are still too young to know how it's habit is going to be @Alfie_ bought from Cants btw.
The thing about this years roses is I have found the ones put into pots have done much better than the straight in the ground ones.
Four were needed to be in the ground, ready for the summer, bare roots, and the rest came as potted roses in June.
The potted ones went into tubs, all bought at GC's except for Desdemona that came from DA. All had the same compost/soil mix ( even the ones in the ground) and fed the same over the season. But the growth in the pots were twice that of the garden ones.🤔 Maybe its just that the potted ones are older plants?

Interesting, Purple. My garden ones were also much slower than potted. I blamed the dog.

For a purple rose in a pot, I would advise to wait until the end of February before making a decision..

The only problem with waiting Marlorena is if you really want a particular rose and it’s sold out bare root by then, unless someone offers it potted later on.

Surprise delivery today from Fedex, a rather posher courier than I’m used to! These were the two replacements for the no longer available The Prince from Dewilde in the Netherlands, who sent me 2x WS2000 by mistake.

Left is a back-up Gertrude J in the unlikely event I manage to kill mine, otherwise destined for a gift. I didn’t know it sets large orange hips, does it? Not convinced it is Gertie, actually. Right is a really well branched Thomas a Becket, or at least I hope so!

Got my Empereur Charles IV potted up. The handle of an old mattock used for a handy (if rather short) stake plus a temporary bracer. I need to go shopping to find a large decorative pot to slip the plastic nursery pot into, but no rush..

Assuming it actually is TaB newbie, I will be growing it in a pot first to make sure. I don’t have much confidence in this nursery’s control over it’s own inventory, given past experience..

Sadly, for want of a non-existent house number, it looks as if my German order is en-route back to them going by an automated recorded message from the numpty courier’s head office in Madrid. So my final attempt to get TP, CPM and Falstaff is well and truly scuppered 😞 So frustrating, given this courier has delivered here many times in the past!
