@Marlorena thanks for the recommendations and what an interesting thread. How did you find out that user was T Carruth? I'm excited for my two Ab Fabs I ordered. Funnily enough I looked at his latest rose activity on Houzz and it was a thread about purple roses (an ID). He recommended Perfume Factory. I wonder who bred that one.........:D
@Alfie_ ..lol.. well there you go.. to give credit where due though, he does list the breeding of his roses down to the last detail, usually. They don't all do that unfortunately, and never from Austins these days, and I doubt he'd recommend one of theirs..
I've only grown I think 3 of his and they did exceptionally well here in a short time, they seem suited to dry areas with lower rainfall. Some of the names he gives, or Weeks gives, are gimmicky to say the least.. 'Ch-Ching'.. 'Yabba Dabba Doo'.. ? I mean..
One gets to know these people over time on forums.. I was interested in another small purple rose of his called 'Royal Celebration'.. but didn't get it in the end. Incidentally, his breeding work often includes an old Harkness rose called 'International Herald Tribune', which is also found in some other purple roses we grow like 'Forever Royal'.. one of my best roses here..
@Tack I meant to say earlier, lovely floral bouquet and you've been partying quite a bit too, nice to have family around now after all the lockdown business..
Enjoying the snowy garden scenes too, none here, which is unusual for us..
Has anyone in UK ordered from Lens recently? Nollie's bareroots look extraordinarily good..
@WhereAreMySecateurs yay Im pleased to help! Its a nice looking specimen they sent too, its having to wait to be potted as I have some stinking cough but its happy post soak in damp kitchenroll in a bucket! I got it on a whim ordering a bird box
I think the new postage/export charges from Lens might put folks off, unless ordering a large number, but yes they are really good Marlorena and I would order from them again. Vic sponge used to get a fair few from them I recall.
I haven’t paid for the German order, they operate the same pay on invoice system as TCL, so that’s one less battle but I would much rather paid and received the roses.
Weeks/Carruth roses usually do well for me and are generally undemanding, but they do get some blackspot in my climate, even Julia Child. I have a Royal Celebration or order from TCL having seen the one Eustace has. I might even get my hands on Twilight Zone one of these days!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
