So many lovely late blooms, it’s all looking fab for this time of year. Oh Smudge has certainly settled in and some @Athelas, she is already very much the boss, poor old Bill’s has been bumped right back down to bottom of the pack.
Re fragrance, it’s very much dependent on your nose of course, but WS has firmly moved into my top 5 @WhereAreMySecateurs. Sometimes my heat brings it out more, sometimes less, so I’m always interested how roses smell to others. @Rojas Palais Biron/Purple Lodge is still very much in my top five. Some, such as the rain-hating La Rose de Molinard and the heat-hating Dee-Lish are bumped off by virtue of the fact I’ve got rid. There are some very close contenders but my current top five are, in no particular order:
Palais Biron Gertrude Jekyll WS 2000 Mme. de Sévigné Rose de Rescht Lady Emma Hamilton
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Lovestruck, has been continually flowering since May and still has load's of buds on. It doesn't seem to have been bothered by the heat and doesn't mind the rain either. Colour is much deeper than either my tablet or phone can capture.
That’s really good to know @Suesyn, looks very healthy too.
I’m slightly regretting my impulse order of a Empereur Charles IV standard. I love the look and colour of that rose but have doubts it will cope with my climate. I wondered abut changing it to a Thomas a Becket one but that’s only on an 80cm trunk, which sounds a bit short for that rose. ECIV’s is 110cm. I guess the shorter one would work in a pot. What do you think folks?

I think you should teleport it into my garden cheers ta @Nollie
I'm feeling narked because my backup plan to the Jubilee Celebration standard or Grace standard (both archived abruptly by DA) was a Darcey Bussell standard from Styles, but Styles have told me DA have withdrawn nurseries' licence to bud for the withdrawn patented roses incl MW, Darcey and Lady Emma... so if they have the standard, they can't sell it to me.
Nurseries should be able to sell existing stock budded when the license was still in force, surely?
According to the Lens site, both TaB and Gabriel Oak (another possibility) are out of stock at present but should be back in November. I hope they are still able to bud them as DA have withdrawn neither. I noticed that TCL still haven’t replenished stocks of some Standard DAs that were OOS last year, e.g. Golden Celebration so probably also a licence issue. They seem to be getting voraciously commercially protectionist like in the US. Curse them!

Curses, yes. Plagues of boils and aphids. I wonder what other standards would do well in the spot I am thinking of (it is not the sunniest but will get some afternoon sun, so might not cope the best if we get more 40deg days like this year). Did your Chandos Beauty standard do OK in year 1, @pitter-patter?
I have just ordered my mum in NZ a Munstead Wood for next year (July 2023 winter orders are open already), so who knows how interested DA are in overseas licensing...?
Very interested if they found out, I suspect. I know of at least one EU nursery that was still despatching DA roses to the UK last year, patent or no patent!

Probably the last flower of Amande Paternotte for the year. Its flowers are small but I love the form and colour, and it is even more fragrant than Rose de Rescht, to my nose.
@WhereAreMySecateurs Chandos Beauty did very well, especially consider the lack of rain. I did not water as much as I should have.
All my standards did very well. These are the others at their peak (Rambling Rosie, Harlow Carr, Julia Child). My favourite so far remains Harlow Carr.

Your other standards are stunning as well.
