Can someone remind me as to whether I should/should not plant a rose where one has previously been planted please. I would like to replace some that have not performed well. One in particular being 'Bonkers', did anyone else try it? I tried it in a pot, nothing, then this year in the ground, very little happened, just small shrivelled roses, perhaps I need to leave it longer? tia
@meomy, if it's only been in the ground for one year, it should be safe to replant a new rose in the same spot I believe.
However, this year has been particularly hard on roses so you may find yours will do better next year, particularly if you keep it well watered now (if it doesn't rain lots) and well fed in the Spring with specialized rose feed and manure around it.
Went to a GC today for lunch with a friend and was surprised to see some potted DA roses for sale at £32. Seemed quite a lot I thought.
I think @JessicaS has Bonkers @Meomye so might be able to tell you if it is a slow starter, some roses just need more time than others and we’re supposed to give them three years to reach their full potential.
If it’s been in the ground less than a year, no problem with planting another rose in it’s place, maybe just refresh the soil a by digging in a little well-rotted manure.

@Lizzie27 you’re absolutely right, it’s been a tough year to establish new roses, with the excessive heat and drought taking us and them by surprise. It’s hard to know what new roses would have done in a ‘normal’ year - if such a thing exists anymore!
Deep pinks today..

I live in Lincolnshire @Nollie , the county above Marlorena, and yes we get frosts, down to -5 sometimes. Already had one in the last week or so. The greenhouse is regularly getting down to 8° at night now, so the roses still in bloom won't last long I suspect.
In a moment of weakness I ordered Falstaff and Jubilee Celebration with the 15% off code GARDEN... need to order more roses to balance out the DAs now, flipsake.
Also got some more Allium Purple Sensation, double replete daffodils and some orangey tulips from Wilko.
This drought year was pretty good for me here. A lot of stuff didn't make it (fuchsias fried, some bedding withered) but the roses for the most part just loved it.
Funny how these things go in cycles, I was really off DA roses for a while and it was all about old roses. Now I’ve got back into DAs, or at least the older ones - nothing they have released in the last few years has taken my fancy.
Oh and I’ve decided to get a big tall pot for Golden Celebration and let it arch, rather than binning it. Don’t know why but I have a sneaking suspicion this will be next for the chop..

Sorry, forgot about Gabriel Oak... also love it. Emily is busy putting on more buds all the time although she is mostly in shade Dee-Lish has good rebloom Heritage is even more generous. And Lavender Lassie is losing some buds to either insects or the chill but is holding on for dear life!
Boule de Neige has finally stopped blooming but is whacking on the growth as if it were springtime, just as @newbie77 reported.
