@owd potter Here is my range of colours for Ebb Tide and RdV Ebb Tide is a small rose for me, 60x60, maybe 70-80 for new canes but not more. RdV is a laky grower with long flexible canes up to 1.5m, suitable for training.
@owd potter, I can't find photos of my ebb tide but they would be similar to edhelka's. Mine is also a small shrub. One thing that is different about this rose is that petals have some kind of paper like texture. They don't have that dewy shiny look and feel like fake flowers at times.
Thank you for your stunning pic of Winchester Cathedral a week ago. Checked with Ashridge on the off-chance and they did have one to send me. Christmas has come early!
@WhereAreMySecateurs - yes it’s well worth a trip. They often have more established roses in large pots for reasonable price (well, compared to Austin). That Chandos of mine was bought early summer in a 20L pot for £27 and got to about 4ft (excluding pot height).
@Eustace that Ebb Tide looks lovely. How to you rate is against your other roses? Yes Chandos beauty is my best scented rose for me.
How do people find Kordes roses as most forums DA often dominates but I have found Kordes roses do very well too. Interested to know if anyone has any and how they perform? My Kordes Fairytale rose did so well this summer:
Who had a Winchester C pic ? Could I see it? Mine is very leggy and doing quite badly. Would love to see what a good WC looks like 😂
@Alfie_ A big welcome! As I understand it Fairytale from Kordes is a series of roses in different colours. Which colour is yours, please? It's stunning and looks very healthy. I love it against the wicker hurdle.

I don't have many DA roses. My taste seems to run to roses bred around 1932.

Yes you’re right Fairytale is the collection - mine is the Lion’s Rose should have said. Yes that’s their main strength is that the foliage is immaculate. They start off with a kind of coffee tinge colour (a bit like buff beauty) then turn to brilliant white when they fully open. Since this one is established and produces hundreds of flowers I am continually bringing them inside and visitors think they are fake as the foilage is so good 😂 Despite it's very large size (5.5ft by 4ft) you struggle to find a single diseased leaf. Here is a closer picture taken in the middle so you can see lots of foilage:
Thanks all for your feedback and invaluable insights on Ebb Tide. @WAMS, I missed your response earlier. Interesting perspective, could it possibly have been a poor rose that you were delivered? although AN view would seem to chime @Tack, thanks for that, confirms my impressions of it as a more compact rose and it's colour. Also thanks for the confirmatory nudge of another rose on my list entirely due a fabulous picture of yours earlier in the year, Odyssey. @edhelka. Thank you for the brilliant illustration, colour difference is striking when seen side by side. You guys are grate...
Thanks @Alfie_ that is my kind of rose! I’m putting some similar into the garden this winter.
If DA is delivering bare root already, should we be ordering now? It’s still summer temps where I am and lots of roses about to bloom, after all the rain. Growth like spring…

Very pleased that my bareroot Strawberry Hill was delivered this morning but we've got torrential rain today so it will have to wait to be planted.
