Thanks @WhereAreMySecateurs, that's kind of you It doesn't look like that now of course and is still a work in progress. Need to work on getting height on the shady side and covering the fence. Hoping my new Alba root Lemon Blush will add some structure eventually but it is in a pot this year to give it a good start as it will have much to compete with. I hoped Goldbusch might add some height but for the past two years it has laid on the ground/ other plants like an octopus.
Thanks @floralies, yes I was thrilled to get Falstaff.
Hope everyone’s seasonal celebrations went well and those with lurgies aren’t suffering too much. I’m still a bit breathless and got sore ribs from coughing after a nasty bout of covid but finally seeing the light. It’s been weirdly mild and very sunny here after that cold spell with sharp frosts - a record 22ºc on Christmas day!
I got my TCL order all potted up yesterday. Only one disappointingly wimpy one hidden in the bundle, Versigny. A few had such thick, long tap roots they needed bigger growing-on pots. Or a chainsaw.
I still have half a dozen roses budding and sort of raggedly blooming - Astronomia, Blush Noisette, La Rose de Molinard, Darcy Bussell, Cramoisi Superieur and Super Trouper. Mme. Isaac Pereire hasn’t repeated well for me yet, but now has it’s first bud of an autumn flush, or is it the first spring one?
Super Trouper and Astronomia:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I hope everyone is on the mend, ready for the New Year. Some really interesting roses to come from all these forumite orders.
My TCL order is in the UK as of yesterday. I do hope it arrives this week having already been en route for 7 days.
I finally pruned off all the blooms and buds yesterday from Dames de Chenonceau, Golden Beauty and The Prince, since the cold spell there has been no development and I was keen to remove some very rust spore covered leaves. Scarborough Fair, Ebb Tide and Chandos Beauty were potted into bigger 56lt pots and Easy Does it and Jingle Bells tipped out and given new soil in their existing 32lt pots. The pots are now all looking very tidy and mulched. My hands and forearms look ragged though.
I had a trip to the local GC today and noticed some heavily discounted DAs there (which must’ve been the left overs from last year) - just £5, down from £30. They were mostly climbers and ramblers. But there were also three Silas Marners… I just couldn’t walk past 🙈 they didn’t look that great but I thought it was worth a go if it’s just a fiver. I chose the one that looked the most alive (or should I say - the least dead!) I already reported it - the roots looked very good, much better than I expected. Now it’s just a waiting game… I’m feeling so excited though! 😁

Some lovely Christmas pictures earlier in the thread:)
@Victoria Sponge Your garden looks so lush! And it’s so nice to see roses in the garden setting.
@purplerallim Gorgeous views!
