Icky names put me off buying a rose entirely, but doesn’t mean to say they are not good roses, Tack.

Trouble with other people’s lists, being nosey and having asked for them, is they then make you feel as if you are missing out!

Given the racist, sexist, anti-semitic, fat-shaming accusations being lobbed at Roald Dahl at the moment and the reediting of his books to be less offensive, I’m wondering if DA will capitulate to the sensitivity brigade and rename his rose..

I do hope they won't Nollie. I was happy they changed Mortimer Sackler to Mary Delany though, the buying of the name and the terrible association was always icky. DA kept the change a total non event though, only using the same photos in the catalogue made regulars aware it had happened. Oh and the name (Ausorts) for those that know to look at that

Thank you @Nollie. I hope my Astronomias grow to look as good as yours.

Nice roses but @Tack I rather like your jazzy wellies in the background, with the replicated mud look... as if you've been knee deep in it, when in fact you've just been out there reading a book.. we know..

Haha, those are my husband's. The are lined with neoprene which has finally solved the problem of getting him to dig without getting cold feet. A definite win for me
Edit. And mud would be a fine thing right now. It has been weeks without rain

I would be very tempted to return the fairy circle to a bed and have a large weeping standard rose there @Tack, in fact I know the perfect one..

I have similar Dirt Boot neoprene wellies with reinforced soles for digging. In fact I’ve just had to buy another pair, which I’m keeping out of reach of Smudge the Destroyer’s teeth!

I am planning to dig some random beds like that!

How deep can we bury the graft union? I am thinking of planting deep this time to give more chances of surviving draught conditions.
