    @DSrose FYI, I tried ordering DA bareroots after it was reported that they are shipped to UK recently, but then TCL said they cannot.

    And then my heart with pleasure fills,
    And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

    Oh no, maybe I’ll chance it and see how far I get. I still have some other non DA roses in the basket but I was most excited about those!

    I've just ordered another one, when I said ''no more !''..

    @DSrose
    Let us know how you get on with TCL.. it's a shame they're not sending Austins..

    @BlueBirder
    That's quite a width of fence.. would you like 2 perhaps?
    I might try something like a red repeat rambler 'Rambling Rosie' with 'The Generous Gardener'.. planted 8 feet apart..  that way you get those clusters on one, but a nice scented climber as well to go with it.. just a thought..  we've no idea how much gardening your mum can manage..

    Definitely worth trying. My local friend just received 10 DAs from Lottum, incl newer ones...

    I shall report back! Once they let me know if they can send standards, that order is going straight in.
  • @DSrose it’s worth a try. I ordered roses from TCL in late november, delivered early January, including 2 Austins, Lady Emma Hamilton and Crown Princess Margarita, and I received both with my order.  So you never know.

    Nice reticulatas @Mr. Vine Eye I like the look of Clairette. I received a couple of packs of Katharine Hodgson as a gift once, they flowered the first year then disappeared the next!

    @BlueBirder which way does your mum’s fence face (does it need to be shade tolerant) and does she have any colour preference for her ramblers? Despite the 20ft length I still wouldn’t want a really big rambler that could bring down the fence so two smaller, well-behaved and ideally thornless ramblers/climbers sounds like a good plan. That way, if once-flowering, it’s simply a matter of annual pruning to tidy up after flowering and a bit of tying in rather than constantly battling a rampant monster! Obviously if she goes for a repeat flowerer easy access for regular deadheading is needed.

    @DSrose it seems to be total luck of the draw whether the packer at TCL clocks whether DAs are included in any UK order, strictly speaking it’s still banned, but they aren’t very strict! They can usually send standards up to 1m stem size abroad, but they couldn’t send me one taller as it would’ve meant exceeding their maximum box length for freight - so no large weeping roses, for example.

    No new roses purchased so far this year.
    @DSrose I received a standard from TCL to UK in Jan last year, not a DA though.  I ordered it the regular way without enquiring first.
