I've got 6 roses in a roughly 12 foot border but it's wider and they are staggered..
I think in a narrower border, I would go with 3 larger ones, 4.5 feet plus, separated by 4 or 5 feet, or 5 smaller ones which are under 4 feet tall.. as I like to leave room for companion plants, or fill in with other things while they develop..
@owd potter. Six DA’s in that border! That has made me very happy, thank you. Now to choose, always the fun part! ☺️
Plus a rambler!! I have in my border: Ghislaine de Feligonde, Desdemona, Lady Emma H, Vanessa Bell, Lichfield angel, Roald Dahl, and a yellow floribunda that I relocated which may be Arthur Bell. (Be nice if it was, Arthur & Vanessa Bell in a bed together...) I staggered and triangulated my planting along the border, like this
Just looked back to your original post, and I see you say 2'-3' wide, which may not allow you room to stagger them much, so maybe reduce the number, depending on variety, as noted by M.
Quite surprised to discover Julia Child's first flower of the season today! Don't worry about the spotty leaves - it's pine pollen season in Georgia. You can see clouds of it coming off the trees when the wind blows.
Oh wowowow, @SYinUSA. Wish I could smell Bolero there. I got John Paul II recently, another fragrant white which I think is popular in the USA too, but we're a while off any flowers here. How long is your rose season in Georgia?
@WAMS I've had roses in late November/early December, so our season is quite long. We do get unbearable heat/humidity for much of the summer, though, so roses will take a break in blooming.
That's such a neat drawing of your border @owd potter guessing you are a landscaper by profession..
@JessicaS I don't own Earth angel (in my wish list) but I believe that too has fragrant cupped blooms.. I am sure some of us here own it..
Freezing nights this week.. I have some bareroot perennial which was shipped on 26th.. is it advisable to pot them up now? most pots will be of similar size to the ones they ship potted roses..
@cooldoc Yes I would pot them up. If they are hardy perennials I might plant them direct in the ground but depends what it is.. bare root daylilies for instance, do need to be potted up first and grown on..

And Bolero, in bud and fully open.
