For some reason I woke around 3 and my brain was too busy and wouldn’t switch off for over an hour … thankfully it let me go back to sleep eventually …
Lovely sunny morning …

That is just so very sad DD, sending hugs to you both. Yes Dove, it is a proper Rayburn and does the cooking, water and runs our 8 radiators keeping this old barn at a lovely 23 - 24 degrees (Hosta would love it!). Before you all gasp at that temperature, I have to say that for 1. I feel the cold and 2. we have doors and windows in every room (except bathroom and en suite of course) and like to have them open eg lovely and warm everywhere but fresh air to breathe around head level! Not sure when I will post again as having trouble with this laptop - keeps having hissy fits and acting irrationally so it is off to a 'little man that does' today to be sorted - fingers crossed. Have a good Tuesday folks.
Sounds an idyllic restored barn @AnnaB I too, love a Rayburn. Using nature's resources isn't to the greenies' ideals, but if you have the wood available, then why not?
It is very humid and oppressive again here. It was 24°C at 7am - everything seems damp. Tea towels etc. The sun came up at 7.45am but it is now overcast with a damp warm wind. Not good for fizzy wizzies like me!! Normally, September is the ideal month. Sunny days, cool nights.
So I feel the efforts of my exercise class yesterday with this damp weather even more!!
Picked the last of the tomatoes yesterday - lots of cherry ones, red, yellow and black. Made a lovely tomato tart last night - just tomatoes, basil and olive oil - forgot the garlic which was probably a good thing as the tomatoes are at their sweetest.
Hoping it would rain on Wednesday, I intended to take out the t. plants but it seems to have moved away. Apparently, the evening temperatures are in decline for next week. Days still at around 30°C. Picked some more of the reddened peppers and strung them up to dry - inside. I hope they don't go mouldy in this weather. Roasted some of the green peppers which are decidedly very hot this year and will marinate them in garlic and olive oil to eat with crusty bread.
I hope your news is better this morning @D0rdogne_Damsel and that the worries of the night seem clearer today @Dovefromabove I get a bit stressed before a long drive - (better to be stressed than too relaxed) but once I'm on the road, I feel good about the long drive. It's the big trucks that are the nuisance. Indicators for them are just an accessory!!!
Enjoy your day and I hope you get all those jobs done that needed doing!!
Expression for today: A la Saint-Leu, l'ail à la terre (well I don't plant mine until December - but whatever!)
Good morning @tui34 … it’s unlike me to stress about a journey … I’ve done that one so many times … even on my own for work … Devon & back in two days with a big meeting down there … and those were the days before satnavs. Most odd.
You’ve just temped me to order some garlic … shall I? 🤔 Probably not … the veg patch gets overcrowded as it is … and I’ve got some asparagus on order … that’ll take up a lot of room …

Morning all, still awaiting rain here as well @tui34, overcast and oppressive as well. We thought we might get rain last night looking at the radar but it just passed us by as usual. Does anyone grow Autumn/Winter spinach? Is it ok to plant seeds now that the weather is (maybe) cooling down? I might have a look for spinach plants tomorrow when I go shopping but don't want to plant out while it's still so hot.
Morning everyone, supposed to be cooling down now, last eve was very warm. The gauge in the car reckoned it was 24C when I came out from yoga at 8:30. I might try to lift the late spuds today, always a tricky balance between letting them bulk up from the rain vs the slug damage. Hope the troubles are resolved DD.
