Just spent a therapeutic half hour summer-pruning the espaliered pear ... now we can see through it ... couldn't quite get at all of it tho cos last year's runner beans overwintered and are growing, flowering and looking promising ... thought we'd leave them to see what happens ... OH put a few canes in to make a wigwam but the beans are also attempting to climb the pear ... !!!

I do love an espaliered pear or two - what colours do they come in?

Some great pics on here today.Ā  And that greenhouse @chicky - wow!

Your mum had some very wise words @Dovefromabove.Ā  I wonder how many happily married couples wonder how they would cope without the other - and practically speaking, which would be the better at coping alone?Ā  I think in our case that would be me.

Afternoon all, Love that greenhouse @chicky.Ā  Hugs @Hostafan1 stay strong for the grandchildren they will get you through this.Ā  Try and see them often and make sure you get lots of cuddles.
I'm enjoying my downtime from the rest of the family as they are all on holiday and I have no appointments in the diary so I had a long lie in and then ventured into the garden to clip some bushes and do a bit of weeding out the front.Ā  Think I'm going to get the leaf sucker out in a minute to get the leaves and cuttings up as it will be less arduous than bending down and gathering them up by hand.Ā Ā
I've lost a few of my dahlias this year, which is unusual.Ā  I have always left them in the garden overwinter and it wasn't harsh this year.Ā  I don't remember it being particularly wet either so they should have been ok.

    Good day everyone.

Big list of garden jobs today as it’s pleasant but not hot (supposed to be back up to 28 next week).

As I sit thinking of my list of jobs, decaf brew in hand, thoughts wandered to @Hostafan1. I remember the weekend that followed after my mum’s death was a strange time, punctuated by an ill-timed Mothering Sunday. I know it’s silly, but I found getting all those ā€˜first’ anniversaries out of the way is a step closer to feeling slightly less awful.

Hugs and cuppas to all today as I’mĀ sure we have all thought of Hosta, and indeed our own losses, this last couple of days. Ā

The sun is out and I have cuttings, re-potting and general faffing about to do! Take care folks.Ā

Afternoon all, general faffing about is what I'm good at @AuntyRach!

We've had a fairly lazy day as it's really too hot to do much and the ground's too hard to make weeding easy. We finished putting in the new House Number post yesterday and am quite pleased with it. All I've got to now is to spray the big stones around it with white paint to emphasize there's a drop/slope below it and maybe paint a white stripe on the post facing the car park area so people reversing out can hopefully miss it!
Now I've got a big can of white spray paint to use up, I shall go on the prowl and see what else I can use it on. The old gas meter cupboard for starters I think.

Traffic into town and in Sainsbury's was very quiet, I guess a lot of people are away. Thank heaven for Screwfix, since we lost Homebase there's not many places left in Bath for DIY stuff.Ā

For some reason the sitting room window suddenly wouldn’t shut properly 😮. Bless OH … stepladder and screwdriver in hand he fixed it … and then cleaned the whole big window ✨
Now we’re watching the diving and I’ve got the knitting out …

I know what you mean Aunty Rach. The first year after my first husband died seemed full of anniversaries but the 2nd year I thought "Well, I managed it all last year so I can do it this year". He died the end of November '98, the children had been looking forward to Christmas. Every year was easier than the previous one.
