The autumnal weather continues here as well. More rain forecast for today and tomorrow, when of course my annual round of golf has been scheduled Given the condition of my knees and hips, getting rained off might not be the worst outcome.
As the sun has just peeped through the cloud, I'm off to open the shed to see what falls out. Bit of a tidy required Β
Hello Hazel π€ - great to see you. Hope everyone enjoys 23's birthday.
Ante - what a pain being back at school again. Mondays are definitely the worst day of the week. The rain you've had should make things a little easier.
Oh I so wish we could have some rain. Absolutely nothing in the forecast and the temp today is expected to be about 27 - 28C.
I have definitely lost some plants and the 30 year old beech hedge (about 70m total length around 2 sides of the boundary) is showing very clear signs of advanced stress. Other beech hedges in this area are in a similar state. Absolutely no way to do any meaningful watering of that length of such a mature hedge so can only hope it will be ok. Never seen it like that before.
LB - the ditch spades look good. Do you have a butyl liner in your pond? Is there a risk of puncturing it if you use a spade in there?
I got a lot of the solid silt out the drain chamber using my pole diggers and then I fashioned this Heath Robinson device to scoop out the remaining sloppy gloop. Worked well. Cleared between 18 & 24 inches of 'stuff' out of the chamber. Disgusting job - hopefully won't need doing again for another 2 years.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Afternoon everyone, Lovely to see you Hazel @Songbird-2, hope 23 has a wonderful birthday tomorrow πππ and you & OH are both keeping well. Lots of bulbs to plant they will make a lovely display next year π Have a lovely day everyone.Β
Good afternoon Chive. I trust all went well with your Mum's appointment yesterday. Have you finally sorted all of the holiday clothing etc.? I must admit that I do love coming home after a holiday - apart from the sorting out.
Busy, I have to say that I hadn't heard of Tolly Cobbold but read a very interesting potted history on Google, all about what happened to it.
T'Bird, so sad to read about the lovely beech hedge. Fingers crossed that like my Katsura, they have just shed all their leaves to conserve water and they pick up again once you do get some decent rainfall.
I do have a butyl liner in the pond and I have been thinking about the care I will need to take when I start dredging. I love your jug/scoop (slap a patent on that!) and I have been looking at my plastic compost scoops and wondering if I can adapt one of them.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I thought I'd posted earlier, but perhaps that disappeared too. Looks like it's been rather quiet this afternoon on Res. Have we all been busy bees?Β Love the Snoopy pic @Ladybird4
Will say night night to you all, sleep well and sweet dreams everyoneΒ
Morning everyone, Been awake for ages, got fed up with trying to get back to sleep, have come downstairs for a cup of tea.Β It's quite dark this morning, could do with putting a table lamp on. It looks like it's been raining for awhile, everything looks rather soggy in the garden. Drizzling at the moment.Β Β I'm seeing a friend this morning and also needΒ to post a birthday card today.Β Hope you've all had a good nights sleep.Β

Good to hear from you, Hazel, @Songbird-2, and I hope 23 has a lovely birthday.
Old Speckled Hen is my favourite beer too. My Granny was a Cobbold from the Suffolk Cobbold beer brewing family. Alas, Tolly Cobbold is no more.
We had rain forecast for yesterday but it didn't arrive. The lawn is brown and several plants have died. No hosepipe ban yet.
So sad about that little girl.
