Hello everyone. We are enjoying a very relaxing couple of days lazing in the shade and occasionally flopping into the swimming pool to cool off.
Temps in mid 30's here but it's not too bad if you don't need to do much more than prepare salads for meals. We are camped in the orchard and enjoyed apples and plums straight from the trees for breakfast.π This afternoon may feature ice creams.
Ante - I'm glad to hear conditions are a little more bearable for you.
LB - it does sound as though your bedrooms get very hot. Did you say there's no insulating attic space between the ceilings and the roof? Do you have velux windows to open in the ceilings? They're fairly effective at dissipating heat at night. I wonder if it's also worth investigating if you could have insect blinds fitted to the windows? The sort you get in caravans and motorhomes - they're very effective and just push or roll back into their frames when not required.
SGL - sorry to hear your OH is suffering in the heat. Only one more day after this I hope.
Rubee - hope your OH isn't struggling too much
LB - an early start for you again - but it's nice to go when it's quiet. I'm not surprised Tesco have fallen out with some of their suppliers. They are notoriously tough (sometimes unreasonable) negotiators - although I don't know if they're really that much worse than the other big chains.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
@Busy-Lizzie - If you do have velux windows, I see they do make heat protection shutters and insect screens. Probably of no use to you but just in case it is -Β
Thank you @Topbird,Β it's still very hot here this evening. But at least we can sit in the garden this evening.Β Your day sounds idyllic, would love to go for a swim.Β Enjoy your break, have a lovely evening.

It was much better day, and night will be good to sleep. It's carnival in the town, but I didn't go. Β Don't fancy happenings like that. Instead, I'm relaxing on my balcony with beloved mug.
I am signing out for now. Enjoy your evenings and I'll see you here tomorrow.
Have a guess what I have been watching tonight! My stomach is aching watching these young people flying. I would be a nervous wreck if I was watching it live!

Thank you @Topbird. We had them at my old house, but this one is rather old fashioned and has a decorative iron grill over it.
Son 2 and family's flight to France was cancelled, British Airways. They were stuck at Southampton Airport with 4 small children and a baby.
British Airways have been no help. Son and DIL found a hotel in Southampton, most were full. They've found a flight Gatwick to Bordeaux tomorrow but I think their car is at Bergerac. They will have to take taxis from Southampton to Gatwick and from Bordeaux to Bergerac costing a fortune. Lucky that they are quite well off. I wonder what all the other passengers have done, especially those with children.
Meanwhile Son and family arrived here, late afternoon, difficult drive because of road closures and fires.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
TBird my OH is resting more than usual , like most of us he finds the heat exhausting .Enjoy your break .I would love to flop into a swimming pool .We had a lovely open air pool at Golden Acre Park not far from us .It was well used . But for some reason not disclosed the local authorities filled it in. Busy so sorry to read that your son and his family were stuck at the airport Β .That must have been very difficult for the little ones . Good thing they found a hotel . I hope everyone has a good nights sleep.
@Busy-Lizzie so sorry to hear your sons flight was cancelled.Β Glad they found a hotel and were able to sort out another flight, although at great expense.Β @Rubee sorry to hear the weather is affecting your OH too. My OH has been resting too. Hope it cools down soon.
Night night everyone, sleep well and sweet dreams .
Good morning all. Oh my goodness @Busy-Lizzie what a total nightmare for your Son 2 and his family. Bad enough when your trip is messed about with when you are an adult but with all those small people in tow its enough to make you cry. My sis and I had a bad experience travelling back from Kuala Lumpur in 2015 with BA. We had a 12 hour wait. I've had better experiences with the budget airlines and unless absolutely necessary I wouldn't choose to use BA again.
