Had a long day in 3 different gardens. After a bit of a potter at home early doors, went over to mow little sister's lawns. On reflection, after 2 hours work during the hottest part of the day, she needs less grass!
Then went over to youngest's to see how much my makeover of the front garden had been neglected. 3 hours of weeding later, I concluded that it had been 'totally untouched' They've got bindweed coming in from next door, so I've ripped as much of it out as I could manage and next door were happy because I kept going over the boundary to tidy up their front border as well.
What is that old adage about mad dogs and English men? Β
Ante - I think you may be my hero for battling on in those conditions.Β They're bad here but not quite as bad as where you and Busy Lizzie are.Β
All jobs completed today but found one of the raised beds has been completely destroyed (since yesterday) by animal digging. Suspect a rabbit.
Could be upset that my coriander and dill Β crop is destroyed - but I'm actually more concerned that the local wildlife is running short on food, water and shelter. I'm trying to leave trays of water dotted about but I'm worried about how the birds are faring. Little Jenny wrens, robins and blackbirds seem more agitated than normal.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Oh T'Bird, I'm blushing π. It's hot but it's also under 35β so not too hard for endure.
I went to sleep quite late and woke up early, but it was quality sleep. Whole summer without a single cloud, and when I want to watch meteor shower, mother nature sent me clouds in full scale. No rain of course. I didn't just sit and do nothing, there was tomatoes which was waiting to become sauce and small apples for compote. Very satisfying job. Now is time for tea and later cottage.
Good morning everyone .Ante so sorry you missed the meteor shower . I have only seen one and that was over thirty years ago. You have been so busy ,enjoy your tea . My OH has an acupuncture appointment in Leeds this morning . Rosie is going with him because I have an opticians appointment. Enjoy your day folks .
A very good morning Ante and all to follow. I've been and done my cat sitting duties. Jack's daughter is home today so I have 'posted' her keys through Jack's door. Its going to be another steamy day today but pleasant at the moment as just 18Β°C. Must make a list for 'sco.
T'Bird, I have 2 birdbaths in my back garden and a bigger one in the front garden and they are all visited by my little feather dusters and bees and wasps too. I have large rocks in the two biggest baths to allow the insects to drink. My smallest and oldest birdbath, a gift from my Mum and Dad when I bought this house 40 years ago, doesn't hold much water but enough for Lily to drink from despite it being mucky most of the time. I noticed a wood pigeon studiously taking twigs into my neighbour's Leylandii so I'm having to hold fire on cutting the inner side of my hedge for now (yay!).
Biglad - you said it. Hope that the hot weather is kinder to your knees.
Ante, you have done some great Autumn tasks there using your harvest - despite the heat - and it will be wonderful eating those and trying to forget the harsh weather.
Now for that list!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Yesterday I managed to get all my bird food transferred to one of my new bins in the garage. I now have room in my titchy kitchen which was starting to look like a grain store! The bird feeders need filling up every two days now so I know that, as T'Bird mentioned, the birds are finding it harder to find their natural food. There is always food here!

Rubee, hope yours appointments will pass smoothly.
LB, it's nice that Jacks daughter is back home and you are over with cat duties. Birds will appreciate your little grain store. There is almost no food this year in the nature, so many animals will depend on us.
Longest sleep for a while, unsurprisingly! It was in the CA but no surprises there No visible signs on this mad dog of yesterday's stupidity. Was expecting a touch of sunburn but I'm just a bronzed Adonis as per usualΒ Β
I've recently started taking turmeric and ginger @Ladybird4 so I'm hoping that my rusty joints will benefit from that. I haven't noticed the temperature having any major influence. I'd be running a marathon today if heat improved my ailments Β
I'll be mostly indoors today, but have 7 extra plants to tend to at some point. The dead and poorly from the gardens of my sister and youngest have come here for some rest and recuperation!
