Evening everyone, Wow, what a scorcher it's been today 🥵🥵 Still really hot now. @Topbird sorry to hear you are feeling a bit down about your garden. This heat is certainly affecting some more than others. Our Astilbes were looking amazing a few weeks ago, but now they are starting to look quite brown and crispy. I really hope they will survive and return next year. As @Ladybird4 says I wonder if we will have to reassess what we grow in our gardens in the future. @Ladybird4 hope your find the wandering cat. Bet Jack was pleased to see you again today. @Yviestevie well done on losing weight, that's amazing,
TBird sorry to read that you are feeling down about your garden .Mine isn’t looking good either . I think LB is right about looking at what we may need to grow in future . I am signing out too Lily . Sleep well .
You'll never guess! Off to bed shortly to get a couple more hours, hopefully.
Has anybody noticed an increase in door-to-door visitors recently? They were rare round here but somebody seems to have sent out a memo! I'm not keen. If every charity in England guilted me into signing up for £2/month by knocking on my front door, my direct debits would be approx. £3 million per year. I couldn't quite stretch to that, unfortunately.
CA again?? I don't get many door-to-door visitors at all - especially as I have a notice in my window saying that I don't want any cold callers and politely requesting they 'push off' never to return.
Taking Jack to the pub round the corner for lunch today. It is one of his favourite places to go when he feels up to it. I can't believe he will be 92 this year!

Good morning everyone. Big Lad sorry you are disturbed by unwanted visitors .We have a similar sticker to LBs on our kitchen window. We rarely get unwanted visitors now. LB I hope you and Jack have lovely meal at your local. He will be looking forward to the little outing.
Good morning all off to work again. I was up at 5.30 watering the garden. I know it’s naughty but fiancé has been banned from car washing and I am taking shorter showers and using my washing machine less plus flushing less often. I wash up by hand and the used water goes on the pots by the kitchen door. Luckily I have a small garden and no grass.
Someone on the forum said watering plants made them produce nectar and I certainly have dozens of butterflies and bees these days.I ran the hose on the buddleia patch for 15 minutes yesterday and so many more butterflies.I am putting shallow trays of water on the floor in the greenhouse in an attempt to provide more humidity. The dog water in the front garden is being well used too. There are shallow dishes of water with stones in all over the garden for insects and of course the cats much prefer those to the clean iced water in the house. Especially when they go a little green!
I felt bad turning the earnest, young fella away yesterday, but I don't sign up for anything that way, no matter how worthy the cause. However, thrusting his device at me fully expected me to complete all my personal details and then asking why I was snubbing the charity was a bit 'fresh'.
As for the potential new milkman who called the other day. Once I realised what he was selling, I assumed that my opening gambit of, "I already have a milkman. I'm very happy with him. I won't be changing" might stop him mid-spiel and allow him to save time and move on. However, despite then saying he wouldn't dream of trying to take my business away, he proceeded to try and take my business away
I think I need to change my subtle, polite approach as I end up spending minutes getting rid. Open door, shout "&£*^ off", close door might be more efficient
Morning everyone, Tehe @Biglad 🤭🤭 We have a sticker in our window too and a neighbourhood watch one. We haven't has anyone knock for awhile now. (Touch wood) Another gorgeous sunny morning 🌞 Temperature could hit 34° today 🥵🥵 I'm really tempted to give the garden one last blast with the hose tonight before the ban starts tomorrow. Have only used watering cans lately, although did use the hose Sunday. @Ladybird4 have a lovely lunch with Jack. He will be thrilled with his day out with you. Such a lovely thing to do LB. Need to pop out to SM to get a few salad bits. Have a lovely day everyone, take care in this heat.
Just back from seeing to the cats. The nomad was sitting on the fence in the garden so at least I know that all is fine there. I put the blue bin (paper and card) out as well.
Ruby, I'm hoping Jack will feel up to it given the heat. I think it will be fine. I texted his daughter to let her know in case she tried phoning him whilst we were out and got into a panic when there was no reply.
Debs, I conserve water as much as possible and use any 'grey' water on the plants. So far, here in the North West, we don't as yet have a hosepipe ban but I am still careful. The water butts are full again.
Biglad, occasionally when I am bored I will answer cold calls on the phone and when they ask to speak to whoever, I just either pretend I can't hear them, speak with a foreign accent saying I don't understand or inform them that, sadly, the person they wish to speak to has passed away. It works!
