Afternoon folks,ย Lovely day here.ย Had a long lie in, enjoying the fact that I don't have to be anywhere or do anything if I don't feel like it.ย I know I'll get bored by the end of the week but at the moment I'm loving it.ย Have done a couple of hours in the front garden trimming bushes and tidying and now I'm enjoying a cuppa in the sitting room which is always cool at this time of the day. Don't envy you @Ante1 I just couldn't cope with such hot temperatures day after day.ย Drink loads and relax in the shade when you can. Glad to see you are enjoying your Greek getaway Chive, it's a lovely part of the world. Hope you get your leccy sorted today BL.
Yvie, it's nice that you had relaxed morning. I'll take your advice and go to cottage around 6 pm.
I was pretty much down and still I'm exhausted by the heat. Then I received one beautiful ecard and I'm very grateful for that. Must go to cottage but much later. Plants need water. I think that next week we could have water reduction.ย
Electrician came. I have some new light switches and they work the kitchen and breakfast room lights. Couldn't turn the kitchen light out, now I can. But the lights over the cooker, sink, stove and in the larder still don't work. He said he'd removed the old wires from the fuse box as they were very old and of a sort no longer allowed. He will come back when I'm in Norfolk and rewire them. He hadn't time this morning. He also put up my 3 new wall lights on the landing. The landing corridor is no longer a dark tunnel.
I am expecting a ban on watering soon. This area is one of the few, according to the drought map from the Prefecture, that hasn't got water restrictions yet. I dread losing my plants. Almost everything in the garden, apart from trees, was planted by me in the last year and a bit. Not cheap either.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good evening everyone. I've been in and out of the garden like a fiddler's elbow today. Weeding, stocking up the bird feeders etc. etc. Spoke with Jacks's daughter about the arrangements for next week. I don't think it will be too onerous a task.
Debs, hope you are happy after your trip to Edward Scissorhands this morning and that you have had a fun visit with Maisie and George.
T'Bird - Bridge Over Troubled Water was a favourite of mine too. I do however, remember, one trip to Austria when I was driving with my sis, BIL and their family and my young nephew was obsessed with Simon's Graceland. At the end of that trip, I thought if I heard Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes one more time, I would throw the CD into the nearest river.
The news from France is dire indeed. So heartbreaking for all, not to mention, as Busy said, the cost of all those plants that may just die from lack of water. It is very disturbing to hear that some people may not even have drinking water. Who remembers the stand pipes and bowsers in 1976? I save the water I have to run before getting any hot water from my combi boiler and that gets used on my plants. My water butts are full again now though after the rain I've had and the Katsura is leafing up again. Sorry we gave you an ear worm T'Bird
Busy, I'm pleased that at least you have the important lighting sorted out in your house. You must be coming home to Norfolk fairly soon if I remember correctly. I hope that the recent knock back your OH received regarding his op is less aggravating now and that he is looking foward to having you home again.
Chive, there is nothing nicer than catering for yourself when away and the local fruits and veg are usually quite delicious. They all seem to have that 'home grown' taste which they obviously are when sold in the markets but somehow they taste extra special.
Yvie, glad to hear you are enjoying and making the most of your freedom.
Ante, I hope it has been a little cooler for you when you are at the cottage this late afternoon/evening. Extreme heat sucks all the energy out of you.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I am signing out for tonight so I'll bid you all 'goodnight' and I'll see you tomorrow. Sis and BIL are back from France so I am rellie visiting tomorrow.

BBC are forecasting potential thunderstorms for us a week on Monday. Wonder how many times that changes before we get there? Other than that, it is looking like it will be a pretty dry week and get up to 28 degrees.
Morning @Biglad@Ladybird4 and all to follow. Lovely sunny morning, there's a heavy mist at the back of the garden and over the field. Looks beautiful with the sun shining on it. Hope you got back to sleep Biglad. Our sofas are very comfy and it's easy to nod off on them too.ย ย LB have a lovely day with your family, hope your sister had a great holiday. @Chivetalking Glad you're enjoying your holiday, it's so lovely to have your own pool. Fresh veg and fruit always seem to taste better abroad, especially tomatoes. Have a great day whatever you do. Need tea ๐ตย
