I have some bald patches too SGL (the lawn that is - not me personally!🀣)

I went up in the cherry picker this morning to lop off a couple of wayward / too tall bits on the crab apple. Much easier and safer than doing it from the ground or off a ladder. The branches are relatively small (could cut them with loppers) but very heavy with fruit. Wouldn't be nice having that lot land on my head! There must be tens of kilos of fruit on that small tree.

Biglad - I don't envy you your trip to London. I can really enjoy a couple of days there between Oct and April - but not in the summer. All that noise, dust and concrete is just too much when it's hot. Not to mention being squashed against a stranger's sweaty armpit on the bus or tube. Been there - done that 😬

Although the Underground is a extraordinary feat of engineering, I find it grim beyond belief @Topbird. Couldn't do that more often than my current once a decade average. The reliance on it appears to be total. I did amuse myself by asking a couple of folk for directions "by foot". The looks on their faces just screamed, "oh - here's another idiot from up norf wanting to walk to places" :DΒ

I was last in the Big Smoke back in January and, apart from an initial tube journey of about 2 stops from Liverpool Street to Tower Hill, I managed to do the rest of the day all by bus. Much nicer being able to see where you're going and taking in the sights!

Travelling by bus always used to be difficult because you'd just get stuck in traffic but we weren't held up at all. A combination of congestion charges and post-covid visitor numbers I guess.

I really enjoyed visiting the Tower of London that day. It was just me and about 50 other visitors. Could stroll around as I wanted, stop and spend as long as I wanted looking at things, could be alone in a room to actually absorb the history, read the interesting graffiti,  and there were no queues for anything. Best of all no hoards of foreign tourists getting in my way with bl@@dy selfie sticks. All courtesy of international Covid travel restrictions. There were some positives to the pandemic - selfish mare that I am.😁

Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! We've had about an hour of rain this afternoon. Absolutely poured down too. But the sun came back as soon as it stopped. Needs so much more, but the flowers look happy about it and at least I don't have to go round the garden watering the pots.Β

Last time I went to London was before Covid and I went with my DIL. The underground had never bothered me before, but this time it was so packed I was rammed up against the door hanging on to the pole for dear life. I was sure when the doors opened I was going to fly out.Β  Plus I was making sure my bag was safe the people were so close. Although it was much better coming home, plenty of room and we had a seat.Β
Selfie sticks get on my wick too @Topbird although, selfies 🀳.......I didn't know I had that emoji, it appeared on its own......get on my wick anyway πŸ˜…Β

    Evening @Chivetalking and @Rubee
So glad you had a lovely time at your mums today. Love orange drizzle cake, makes a lovely change from Lemon. Yum yum πŸ˜‹ bet your mum had a very enjoyable day with you altogether.Β  My new plants look very happy Chive. The Lobelia Starship has quite a few buds on it, will look gorgeous once they are all open.Β

I was about to start log stacking this morning when Son 2 rang and asked me to lunch.Β I finished stacking the logs, swept the barn, had a shower and went to spend the rest of the day with them, so didn't have time to post this morning. Had a swim in their pool. Last time I swam in it the water was 30Β° because of the heatwave. It was a hot day but nights have been cooler, water was 24Β°, felt quite chilly. The grandchildren are so sweet, I'll see them all again on Thursday. Son has an ancient Triumph Spitfire, he took me for a ride in it. It's red with a wicker picnic basket strapped on the back.

Glad you had a good fun lunch Chive. Orange drizzle cake sounds lovely.

Brilliant show from the Lionesses tonight. Be interested to hear what @biglad thought of a few of those reffing decisions. Thought some of the yellow cards were a tad harsh myself. Never really watched women's football before this tournament but I really enjoyed the matches I watched. More skill & fewer theatrics than some of the mens' matches.

Whole house is now cleaned (outside at least!) & new outside lights fitted - just need to clean the resultant muck from the windows tomorrow & then we might take a breather.
