...lots of things have withered away here, but Pennisetum orientale is heat and drought tolerant, needing no attention... adds a touch of ghostly colour.. Brunnera leaves..
No hosepipe ban here as yet, surprisingly.. I have not watered much, but I may do so this week, here and there. Some perennials have had to go, or cut back to the ground..
Achnatherum calamagrostis... Aster 'Monch' in the background.. Geranium 'Patricia'. very long flowering if not cut back.. I have found I do not get much rebloom if it's cut back at midsummer.. Lythrum 'Dropmore Purple'.. surprised this is still going in these conditions.. Fuchsia 'Prodigy'.. needs to be moved, really suffering in the drought.. ..unwatered Phlox.. looking the worse for wear but hanging on there.. Phlox 'Mt. Fuji'.. Imperator 'Red Baron'.. ..all my 8 or 9 varieties of Phlox are well scented, but perhaps 'Rembrandt' tops the lot..
Clematis 'Cezanne' and 'Corinne.' The Corinne was planted last year and didn't do much this year or last. It probably just needed to be fed, which it must have gotten from the nursery pot soil when I planted the Cezanne this year. I was quite surprised to get growth, much less blooms, this late in the season.
@SYinUSA - clematis like these are hungry, thirsty plants so you should be giving them a generous dollop of slow release feed for clematis, roses or tomatoes in spring and then regular watering in dry spells and occasional liquid feeds of tomato feed thru to mid summer.
Better to water once a week and deeply - 2 to 3 gallons per plant - than to give a daily dribble as their roots are thick and fleshy and like to go down deep.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Thanks @Obelixx. I'm pretty good about proper watering but quite lazy about feeding. I have used general purpose fertilizer a few times this year, but I think the P in the NPK is too low for the clematis to bloom really well. Hopefully it's at least established good roots, which to me is more important than blooms the first year or two.
