A sunny start here, after the last couple of hot but overcast days. OH and I once took the ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth, then walked to the Needles. Took a bus back to the ferry. Some spectacular views. Must make an effort to visit again some time. We would both enjoy the vintage railway.

    Morning all.

I should have done some watering last night. We were too busy with the wretched printer. I got up early and watered the thirstiest plants in my nightie but more to do tonight. I just hope there won't be a hosepipe ban. My little river at the end of the hayfield is still flowing.

Bank holiday today, Bastille Day. I hope fireworks will be banned. 6700 people and holiday makers have had to be evacuated south of Bordeaux near the Atlantic coast because of forest fires.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Morning all,  a little bit cooler overnight but not much.
Fond memories of IOW here too.
Volunteer day today probably will stop at lunchtime if the heat builds again.

We watched Mo Farah last night ... absolutely heartbreaking ... how many other Mo's are there out there, who didn't have a sensitive teacher and running to focus on to give them a means to cope with the chaos and heartbreak in their heads ... ??? It makes you weep ... is it too much to hope that there might be a bit of humanity, empathyand imagination somewhere in the Home Office to find a way to help those who find themseves here by whatever means because there's nothing for them anywhere else? This country cares more for dogs than human beings.  Just supposing he'd not been such a successful athlete ... where would he be now?

Very fortunate that I decided to get the hosepipe out last night to water the front garden. Had to go through the utility room which is downstairs to go out through the garage. I discovered that I had put my steam press on to heat up ready to iron a linen blouse, and had forgotten all about it. It must have been on all afternoon, and if I hadn’t gone down there, would have been on all night. I knew there was a reason I rarely do any ironing, and avoid buying clothes that need it!

It's quite amazing how many of us have happy memories of the IoW, I suppose "across the sea" made it feel more like a holiday "abroad" for our parents before everyone got into flying off to foreign parts for their annual break.
Not sure where our hot weather has gone as, although it is sunny, there is still a relatively strong breeze which is making it quite chilly and the night time drop in temperature is making it necessary for a warm dressing gown for any wakeful activities.
Watering the back garden here this morning - front and back on alternate days - the breeze seems to dry everything out as fast as the hot sun does. Have any of you noticed that this year's flowering of various plants seems to be a lot shorter than normal?
Take it easy with your watering @punkdoc, glad your builders have finished successfully.

Morning all. Spectacular skies last night, was hoping to see the supermoon but too many trees and clouds in that direction. The sunset in the other direction was good compensation though.

A bad day for ticks yesterday, picked up 8 so far bringing this year's total to 19. The current infestation are tiny little black dots about 1mm in size so very hard to spot until the itching starts. OH gets the unpleasant job of extracting the ones I can't reach.

Main road through the village is being resurfaced today which is causing some traffic chaos. It shows just how much traffic normally passes through. To add to the chaos there are lots of smaller holdups due to telecomms companies installing fibre all over the place. The upside is we are getting a 30 times faster service installed next month for less than the old price.

I had my first kiss on a family holiday on the Isle of Wight.  I was 14, and so was he. The bit hit of that year was Under the Boardwalk and I always associate that song with the lovely sunny holiday, the sandy beach and that boy.
Spectacular skies @steephill.  We were just murky clouds and no chance of seeing the supermoon.
Fingers crossed with the watering @punkdoc, don't overdo it with the pots.
    @Ergates - oops!
Hot and sticky here today.  I shall be writing up a Project Management Plan for an event on 4th August - celebrating the visitation we had from Black Shuck here in 1577.  The devil hound did not concern itself with things like risk assessments - although perhaps the congregation he terrorised should have!

    Afternoon folks.

Thought I’d posted yesterday but draft was still there. Just saying about pruning a Viburnum (quite hard) and a bit of border/hedge trimming now the Blackbirds have fledged.

Bit cooler today but very strong sun so I’m under the parasol catching up on messages, garden mag and  the news.

I also noticed @Hostafan1 said hubby was on increased meds so hope he is comfy.

Thinking of the school trips - living in Wales our school ‘holiday’ used to be in the Brecon Beacons. Memories of being so soaked through in our ‘kagools’ that the mini bus would steam- up on the way back!

Have a lovely day all 🍦
