That's such sad news @didyw, too young to die. Sending hugs.
Sending sympathy to @Yviestevie, not a hug in case it's catching. I hope you feel better soon.
We did do something in the end today.
This morning I raked up the leaves and bits of branch in the narrow front garden. It's gravel between the hedge and the path so hard to get it all up.
Then we went out to lunch. When we went to visit the 2 gardens on Sunday OH would have liked lunch out but the nearby restaurants were closed on Sunday. He looked one up and found all the Trip Advisor reviews gave it 5 stars so he booked us a table. It was very good, traditional French with a twist and a bit Japanese. The French chef had lived in Japan for a while. OH's starter was really nice, wished I'd chosen it. It was spicy sweet red pepper mousse in a fresh tomato herby sauce. Then we had sea bass with risotto and fresh wild asparagus, www.alsagarden.com/en/39-ornithogalum-pyrenaicum-wild-asparagus.html; I had the best crème brulée I've ever had and he had a Japanese desert with a sort of sweet bean in a fruity sauce and ice cream which he said was delicious.
The car said it was 35° on the way home. Our bedroom is 30° at the moment. P, the previous owner here, said there was lots of insulation but I'm wondering. At least the sitting room is OK at 23°. This cottage has thick stone walls.
This afternoon we vegged out on the sofa and watched TV.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Sounds a lovely lunch out @Busy-Lizzie. Glad it didn't get to 35c here, we 'only' made 29c and it's been very overcast. Apart from a quick trip to have coffee with a friend and watering the pots tonight, I've done nothing else today. Feel utterly devoid of energy and my ankles hurt.
Evening all, we had a few spots of rain around 6pm . It all evaporated again within a few minutes. It's a tiny bit cooler tonight but not much. @tui34 I know what you mean about trying to grow lettuce in this heat. I have some of mine planted in the shade of my fruit trees. I could do with sowing more but there is no point till the temperature drops as they won't germinate .
Lovely day again, going to be hot though later. Not good for business. Bank holiday here too tomorrow, Fête National, not good for business either as so many organised events on, but I'll enjoy the rest. I have got to bake 100 scones for the mairies picnic. All local residents invited for a free lunch, the maire has asked all different cultures in the community to make something from their culture. And he pays for it. 😁

night night folks … hopefully we’ll all have a restful night … I can smell petrichor but it hasn’t rained here … yet …
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Lovely moon tonight .
A couple of " big " bats flying around, I'd say bigger wingspan than a blackbird.
