Evening all. Did quite a bit outside today but it was high 20's and a bit too hot. I'm glad to have broken the back of the post-holiday tidy up though.

Ante - Glad you have rain & cooler temps. We could definitely do with some of the wet stuff. Enjoy spending time with your sister.

Bit dismayed at the political news. I don't condone anybody in high office breaking the law or 'mis-remembering' events but I do think Boris put a much needed rocket into our politics. Members of the public who never 'did' politics became engaged (whether for or against doesn't matter) and he gained the Tory party far more votes than the Partygate fiasco ever lost them.

I would like to have seen whether or not some of his levelling up proposals ever came to fruition post-covid. I think they might have done and hope his successor will see that they do.

Also very sad to hear that Nadal has pulled out of Wimbledon. His match promised to be very entertaining. I wonder who the Wimbers crowd would have supported if Nadal had ended up playing Norrie on Sunday - they love them both!

Rosie - sorry to hear about your migraine - very unpleasant. Take it easy for the next day or so.

LB - sounds like you had a busy day. Very worrying how many people now have to depend on foodbanks. Don't blame you for not going to Canasta tomorrow. I always took the day off for men's semi-finals when I was working. Girlfriends would gather at mine for prawn & mayo sandwiches, strawbs & cream and a few glasses of bubbles while we watched the tennis. That was back in the Borg 🥰 / McEnroe days

Hazel - sorry to hear about your carpet. Is it worth considering hiring a carpet cleaner to use yourself? Homebase usually have Rug Doctor cleaners to rent.

Might also be worth talking to your insurers. Presumably you'd be making a claim if you can't get the carpet clean, so they might be keen to help you find a good carpet cleaner rather than paying out for new carpet - especially if it extends through multiple rooms.

I speak from experience after dumping a takeaway curry all over the dining room carpet. The house was open plan and the carpet went through the lounge, up the stairs, along the landing etc etc🙄

PS Some of you asked about Bletchley - fabulous day out. I did most of it last year but, with the new exhibition, there was still enough to entertain me for 5 hours.

Highlight was the Red Arrows coming over. They'd just been to nearby Silverstone for the British GP but did a special formation / release of smoke as a mark of respect to Bletchley😎

    Evening All,
LB That sounds like a very busy session at the food bank today, hope some more donations will be forthcoming. Hope you sleep well tonight,
Ante Great to hear you have rain and lower temperatures, what a relief that must be 😅
Hazel Sorry to hear about the carpet doctor not much of a help, hope you find a way to remove the paint without needing to replace it all,
Topbird Glad you enjoyed the exhibition at Bletchley and seeing the Red Arrows fly over how fantastic, it would be nice to see some rainfall soon,
Hope you have a better nights sleep SGL I hope you have had a restful day and get a better nights sleep tonight,
    Goodnight everyone.

Good Morning everyone, a lovely bright start here today. Wet things out and a cuppa made, just enjoying the moment.
Hope you all slept well and have a good day ahead.
  • Good morning Chive and all to follow.  Bright sunshine here too.  Kettle boiled.  Also wishing you a good day.

T'Bird, great to hear that you've got on top of the holiday growth spurt and that Bletchley proved, yet again, to be an enriching experience. The icing on the cake - for me - would have been seeing the Red Arrows but they will be flying over me this Saturday so I'm keeping everything crossed I see them. They will also be flying over Ruby and Rosie. I was saddened to hear that RAF Scampton where they are based at present will be closed down this year and the Red Arrows will be re-located. I spent a happy few years at Scampton when Dad was stationed there.
Hazel, I'm sorry that the Carpet Doctor could sort out the paint spill for you and to be honest, if it was gloss paint, I don't think that the carpet cleaner will be able to do too much either. What a shame.

Good morning Rosie, you weren't there when I posted. I've got my tea and had my cereals. I'm getting ready to enjoy the tennis today.

Good morning Hazel. Apparently chickens are becoming one of the country's favourite pets. There was a charming item about it on TV the other day so maybe 23 saw that. You need to keep a minimum of three. Hope he loses interest in that idea unless the family are really keen. Fresh eggs every day!

    Good morning all.

I'm afraid, Hazel, that the paint won't come out of the carpet. That's probably why the carpet doctor didn't look helpful.

It will be another sunny day. Too hot for much gardening though the veg garden badly needs weeding. Maybe I'll have to do some unmentionables.

Good morning everyone .Chive you are an early bird . Enjoy your day .LB I hope we get a glimpse of the Red Arrows tomorrow. They are amazing .Rosie I hope you slept . Hazel one of my cousin’s grandparents kept chickens .When I visited I would often find I had to move a chicken from a chair so that I could sit down . On one visit I picked up a chicken and she had left an egg .The grandparents were a little eccentric. I loved going there ,chickens cats and humans all were welcome .Their hygiene was bit suspect, but it was great fun being in such an interesting house .
