Same is the case with runner beans here @Dovefromabove. I picked quite a few yesterday and there are still flowers coming up inspite of the single digit temperatures last few nights.

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

Hi everyone,  we are heading to the Ardeche gorges.
Oo err single digit temps hope my Lemons on the patio will be OK.  I didn't get around to putting the protection on before we left.
Opps wrong thread this was supposed to go on forkers,  Doh.
    AB Still learning

  • Our first harvest of the quinces. Tomorrow will be a huge work day on peeling, cutting, slicing the quinces to make spiced quinces. Then more from one tree will be used later on for quince jelly, very time consuming but worth the effort.

@bertrand-mabel Excellent!  I believe it is a BnQ bucket you are using. :) If so, you've got lots of quinces to prepare.

  • Yes @Eustace well spotted it is a B&Q bucket and this is only the first harvest. Still loads on this tree and then we have another in the orchard. We have a medlar as well but we have neighbours who don't and are more than willing to take this fruit so I concentrate on the quinces.

Still picking runners, tomatoes and marrows.
parsnips ready for freezer, forgot photo yesterday.  Still more in the ground,  my dad would have a fit if he knew I was digging them already,  always wait for the frosts to get them,  he would say.   I need the ground for spinach soon.
    ‘Scuse photo bombing pussy cat.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • @Eustace did 5 bottles worth of spiced quinces today. Took some quinces to a neighbour who will make jelly and then tomorrow I will make some jam and then...still so many.
  • Novice gardener here. In our school garden we have apple trees that have always produced lovely fruit. This year the apples have rotted on the tree, and there is apple blossom flowering at the same time. Any thoughts or advice?

We too had blossom this late in the season, but it will just die back . As for the fruit it could be that they were actually ripe for picking a month early, ours were, so are now going over @katyrmcleod . Disease is a possibility, best to pick and destroy all the bad fruits especially windfalls so as not to contaminate the soil.
