Collecting russet, Lord Lambourne and Worcester permain apples today for storage. Had a few conference pears to eat. Picked more pea beans (they really have come back since it rained) and harvested a few beetroot for eating, freezing and bottling. Sweet corn....rubbish!
There were 3 more that have been eaten, but now my upstairs landing is full of Crown Prince squash. These came from 4 plants, the largest weigh about 7kg and the smallest about 4kg. the 5 closest to the camera are not quite ripe which is why they are where I can keep an eye on them.
We've had a wheelbarrow full of apples, but about 60% of them have some form of bug in them that leaves small brown trails throughout the apple. I've also had a wheelbarrow of pears, those are perfect and I hope they can store a bit.
But.. anyone have any good squash recipes? Even allowing for a 50% wastage that's still 2kg per week we need to get through!
No photo but yesterday picked our first brussel sprouts in decades!!! Yes very early but after the caterpilliars attacked (our fault for not putting up netting) we didn't think we would get anything. But we did.
On Sunday we are taking a harvest collection to our son and lady....beetroot, kokl rabi, onions, cucumber, chillies, salad leaves, radish, cucamelons, pears and apples ...will keep them going
Just picked two cucumbers and 30 cherry tomatoes from the greenhouse. Don't know how much longer this can continue, as the night temp has dropped to 5° last night.
This is bonkers … I started picking my ‘Moonlight’ runner beans the first week of July … we’ve been eating generous portions of them most days ever since and the small freezer is packed with them … they slowed down before we went on holiday but I invited the NDNs to take as many as they wanted and they said they would … and today I’ve just picked a huge pile for supper, and there’s loads of lovely fat pods ripening for seeds for next year. I’ve never ever grown such productive runner beans … and in a year which has, supposedly, been difficult for them.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Difficult, it's been impossible here @Dovefromabove ! The whole crop failed, not a bean picked after two sowings. Next year no dwarf french beans for me, back to another variety I think.
