Nice and steady wins the day .Years ago when I was in my thirties I dug a tree root out that was quite near the House .It took me several weeks and I was quite fit at the time .

Time for a quick cuppa 🍵
SGL I’m pleased you had a good nights sleep, makes so much difference when you do. Hope the sun stays out, good luck for OH 🤞
Good Morning Hazel A nice restful day will do you both good, you must have been on the go the whole time yesterday. I had to smile when you said 23 was certain it was a lamb feeding the piglets 🤗
Rosie Wet things are out, hoping that hasn’t put the kibosh on the sunshine now 🙄 How is Alfie?, enjoying his food now by the sounds of it,
Rubee Goodness removing that tree root was a marathon, must have been a moment of triumph when it finally came out 😅
    Enjoy your afternoon everyone.

Morning all. Just put the final (I hope!) pre-hols wash on - fortunately most of it was done at the end of last week before the rains came - it's lovely and warm and sunny today.

Good to see you back Rosie - hope you continue to feel much better over the next few days. I've been a bit throaty the last week. An LFT was negative so it's probably a touch of hayfever. I was certainly sneezing a lot while I was cutting back some of the vegetation last week.

Today I'm going out to cut back some more and  cut the grass.

OH is finally replacing the glass in his van - that's been a saga. He drove up to Corby on Wednesday to get the replacement piece. On Thursday he removed the old window and sealant. Opened the new piece of glass and realised they'd given him the wrong one. Glass shop closed until Monday🤦‍♀️. All weekend we've had a big hole in the campervan - and lots of rain. Thank goodness I hoard big sheets of heavy duty plastic - just in case.... Return visit yesterday to get the right piece. Fingers crossed it goes ok.

Hazel - that shrub root nearly sounds worthy of a stump grinder or - at the very least - a saw and mattock / pick axe. Do you have to remove it all? If you treated it with stump killer could you plant round it?

Chive - have you still got a day or two off? Bet you've enjoyed this break.

Chive Alfie, touch wood, is doing well and has a few favourite places to sleep.  Hope Nel is relaxing in her own favourite place.  Top bird hope the glass fits the van now and can be completed and be waterproof.  It’s a good job you had the heavy duty plastic These things are there to challenge us at times but a nuisance nevertheless.  Have you had a recent visit from the friendly neighbourhood cat? Hazel you and oh have a relaxing day it’s amazing what a battle it can be.  Rosie.

Well I'm back. Had to smile as I drove down the M6 where they are upgrading the concrete safety barriers and continuing with the Smart (yeah right!) motorway development, and every 100m or so there are big yellow signs saying " You may not see us. We're working overnight." They must be sick of people saying why have we got that 50mph speed limit when there's noone actually working here? This work is due to be finished in Spring 2023.
Had a great time with handy brother and he loved the plants. Just Joey - his rose is in full bloom and looks stunning and I HAVE GOT SERIOUS Paeony envy .
Rosie, I was sorry to hear that you had not been too well over the last few days. I hope you are fully recovered now. Good to hear you got some naughty nibbles at the SM. I am trying to resist! Was it Oscar Wilde who said 'I can resist everything but temptation.'? I'm a bit like that! Good news that Alfie is doing well now too.
SGL, I hope that your OH's visit to the oncologist goes well today.
Ante, we know that you are a busy man so don't feel worried when you have all your schoolwork and business work to do and can't get on the forum as often. We all completely understand and know you will drop in when you can.
Hazel, I thought of you whilst at handy brother's as he has a magnificent Weigela in his front garden - its staying. I did laugh at the 'mistaken identity' by 23
Chive, I've got my cuppa by me - cheers!
OMG T'Bird, what a disaster! I'm keeping everything crossed here that all goes to plan now with the replacement glass and that the final preparations fall smoothly into place. I, too, have been affected by hayfever recently - sneezing and streaming eyes. Have been trying local honey to try and de-sensitise, (or is it sensitise) myself.
When I got home I got a beef and ale casserole into the slow cooker. Because onions and I don't get on very well - sorry Ante - I went to Mr Google to find out what I could replace the onions with and I found suggestions for celery and green peppers - which I am OK with, so that is what I am trying. It smells very nice but has got 4 hours (almost) to go so I may not eat any until tomorrow. I'll let you know what its like.
Sorry this is such a marathon post and if I've missed anyone out - apologies.

    Afternoon all,

I seemed to have missed another day! Done a quick skim and would like to point out that, ahem, we're not ALL of a similar height ;) I'm often asked to get things down from the top shelf in supermarkets :D

Biglad, you will never have enough thanks from me as I often have to range round the SM like a demented hen until I find a nice, tall man or one who has longer arms than me and can reach to the back of shelves to fetch stuff for me. I do have to be careful NOT to fall into the chest freezers as well.
I've done some mare's tail murdering on my drive, dead headed all my violas (PITA), planted out calendula and watered my troughs. I've come in for a brew.

Good work @Ladybird4 - a well-earned cuppa. Being 6 feet 2 and a bit (don't forget the bit!) does have the odd benefit.

I'm in slow-motion mode today - 3 hours sleep does that to me :o One more tough week and then I can stop boring everyone with my tedious job details and start to bore them with talk of my soft fruits ;)

LB sounds like you had a lovely time with handy brother.  Smart motorways would fill anyone with dread and we should immediately revert to having a hard shoulder.  I hope all are warned to be extra cautious.  Sounds like a busy afternoon.  I rather like violas.  Glad to hear Just Joey is in full bloom, lovely.  I’ve had a sleep this afternoon and had something to eat and feeling improved for the rest.  Biglad your height will be very useful indeed.  Had two almond cakes today very much for medicinal purposes of course.  Lily you and oh will be tired after your appmt.  Hope you both can rest.  Alfie’s sitting on my knee after a long sleep this afternoon.  LB the casserole will be lovely, the celery will be very nice.  Rosie.

I'm often grateful to Big Lads and the like at the SM😁
My niece is only 5' tall & her hubby is about 6' 6" - they can look a bit odd together and I often wonder about the 'discussions' which must go on about the height of mirrors etc in their house. On the plus side - he doesn't need steps to paint the ceiling, tops of the doors etc and she's happy doing skirting boards etc.

LB - just had a look at Just Joey - lovely. Very similar to DA's Roald Dahl which I like so much I have 2 plants. The colour goes so well with purple foliage plants and blue, purple, magenta and white flowers.
Might have to try the honey trick for hayfever - a few close neighbours sell their own honey.

SGL - hope all has gone well today

OH hasn't been swearing so I'm assuming the glass is ok. Guess we won't know for sure until he takes the tape off....
