Any ID ideas on this moth please?  Erminy?

White ermine, but dependant on number of spots could be muslin moth or water ermine or mulberry moth. my id book doesn't include the thorax

The UK has around 2500 moth species recorded. So Knepp has found around a quarter of all those extant. No doubt with more recorders looking they would find a lot more species on the estate.

It's not so much the lack of field recorders as a lack of specialist identifiers. About 1600 of those species are micro moths and most of them are really hard to identify accurately. I'm still floundering in the early 200s but I've lost count this year and need a few hours auditing my records.
I just found this one on the wall of the house though and it's a new record for my garden and as far as I can find it hasn't been recorded locally for 30 years. The Grey Chi. This one is more white and the chi mark isn't very well defined.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
