I didn't know people did that @Dovefromabove, I thought people flew flags from patriotism. I was expecting them this year because of the Queen's Jubilee.

I lived for many years in Suffolk in the next village to the monstrous N*ck Gr*ff*n, former member of the National Front and then leader of the BNP ... they held rallies and camps in the villages around us ... it was sickening.  I know the politics of quite a few people in East Anglia and where they live ... they're a minority, thank goodness, but they do make their presence felt if they can.  Some folk have tried to re-claim our flags ... but I do understand why it makes some folk feel uncomfortable.
When my son was married to a foreign national who was also ethnically moslem, it transpired that a couple of the bin men on their round were members of a far right party ... they smothered the side of the bin lorry with Union Jacks and St George's flag stickers, made sure it was parked across their driveway while they collected the bins from the whole street, and Zeig Heil'd in her direction while they did so. Eventually my son filmed them and sent it to the council and those men were taken off that route ... that was all.  Not long after that my son was beaten up and kicked in the head as he left a takeaway one evening.  He was left in no doubt as to why it happened ... but nothing could be proved.

That's sad. It's the British flag not the BNP's flag. How awful for your son. I must be very naive.

I think it is the behaviour of the few [ as so often ] that makes the majority not want to show any signs of patriotism. I wish we were not always so apologetic.

What happened to your son and his wife is shocking @Dovefromabove!  But sadly these people are among us, making the most noise and easily accessible to the people at the top who can use them to their own advantage (eg Nigel Farage, Donald Trump, Steve Bannon and all their ghastly ilk).
I'm excited today.  I attended a presentation by a local (but nationally renowned) artist at our local theatre last night, with his big idea - to cast a huge statue of the Black Dog in bronze for display in the town centre, with his other big idea - hold a Black Dog Festival here.  The theatre was full and his ideas went down a storm.  It felt momentous.  But the practical side of me was saying - how do we make this happen? How do we raise the funds?  It was a great evening though, everyone felt galvanised and everyone enjoyed chatting and mingling afterwards.

How dreadful! That’s quite a shocking series of events.
And how depressing that Morrison’s are removing a useful aid for those of us who are trying to make a point of supporting our farmers and buying British.

    Afternoon all.
    Late on parade.
Awake at 4am, 2 loads of washing done and hung in the conservatory before I left at 6.30 to visit Hubby.
Gave in upon return and went back to bed. Now feeling guilty.  :(
Hugs to those how need one.

Sorry to hear about what happened to your son. I hope that he is ok now and that he hasn't lost faith in people. Most of us are decent beings. I am an old fashioned person and I blame all those social media (yes I know, GF is also social media and I am on it) whose only purpose is to stir and make people angry with nasty lies. It feeds on people's frustrations and anger.
