  • Good morning @Dovefromabove, @Nanny Beach and @punkdoc

I hope the deer damage isn't too bad.

I think if I was gasping for a drink I'd make it @Nanny Beach, it's his silly fault fir sleeping on the sofa. 😅

Lovely and sunny here today, now I don't know where to set up the table for the 16, inside or out, they are gardeners so probably fresh air friendly... I'll wait a bit and see the temperature goes like, looks promising though. 😎

    Good day to all.

Deer have been coming an increasing problem for a few years now. We have several herds up on the moors and they are coming further down all the time. Unfortunately they can come in from multiple places, our little hamlet is surrounded by fields and moors.
Last week the young neighbours were out for a walk around midnight and said there were 6 on the road right by us, including a large stag. Judging by the size of the foot prints, our visitor was large.

DD, unfortunately our kitchen/lounge is open plan, the kettle is spitting distance from the sofa, so I couldn't put the kettle on. He wasn't feeling well so got up at 2. Dove, oh yes, I sometimes binge watch stuff, (last night it was Missions") My daughter has wanted to move nearer for a long time, then she met a new bloke, desided on baby, (happened quicker than expected!!)His late Fathers sister lives a couple of roads away. a house came up, she wanted to get the kids into their new schools as soon as possible after half term, so it was all hands to the pump. Also had huge problems this week, youngest son with raging toothache. Visiting him tomorrow. Today, Wedsnesday is theoretically MY day! He hasnt been able to eat, so I will be making soup today. Visiting my best friend tomorrow, after him, havent seen her this year, she is 50 miles away, works full time nights, was going to see her last month, and she got covid again. Also, have another good friend in the same town as my son, she works days, am seeing her in her lunch break! Yup, thats my day off!!!

I share your pain @punkdoc 🦌🦌🦌.  We are surrounded by them.  Only way of keeping them out is by fencing the whole boundary - one of our neighbours has done that, and it looks like colditz, so not a route we will be going down. We have got round the problem by fencing small areas, and making the fences a “feature”.  Never thought I would be creating “garden rooms” but that’s what has happened.  Beech hedges (from maiden whips) very quickly clothe a wire deer fence.

Also had some success outside the fences with Grazers spray - but you have to reapply every week.  Or go big on peonies, oriental poppies and mophead hydrangeas (they eat the paniculata types).

    Hope you find a solution.

    Morning!

Another beautiful sunny day  for today.

Some gardening this morning - the ground is still moist after the rain we had recently, so big weeds are easy to dig and pull out.
@D0rdogne_Damsel  Your restaurant seems to be going well - I hope today is clement and you can get people eating outside.  That will be nice to have your ex visiting - I hope he finds some solace in his sejour.

@punkdoc  No deer here, but we are compensated with an abundance of rabbits and snails!!
@Nanny Beach  I'd be inclined to make a cuppa too as quietly as possible - hopefully not a whistling kettle!!

Today:  A la Sainte-Zita, le froid ne dure pas

    A pleasant day to all.

An appropriate proverb for today @tui34, although it's not really cold it's the sort of day that needs another jumper on just to feel cozy.   :)

tui34, no, its a standard electric kettle, but it does sound like a train.  If hed stayed asleep much longer, I would have gone to the agro of taking it off into the conservatory and closing the back door. I did a tour of the garden and greenhouses instead. The bedroom is next to the lounge, I wouldnt expect him to be waking me up either, Im a very light sleeper, after 30 years of nights. My oldest son says if you drop a pin on the grass I wake up.

    Morning folks.

Day off today so having a lazy morning and will do some garden jobs later. Cloudy and not as warm today but never mind.

Just been watching a lovely programme “Garddio a myw” - a Welsh gardening programme. Info on the “programmes to watch” thread, but it’s on iPlayer.

    Have a good day all.

    Morning all.

Gosh you are hardy @Dovefromabove! Our heating is on. If the sun is out then it's only on for a bit in the morning and evening. Grey outside today.

I hope the deer are staying away from my French garden. It is fenced but the fence isn't very high. So far only one deer got it, but it ate the new shoots on the pink roses. They were a menace at my old garden.

Has anyone noticed that Morrison's don't have their own brand of butter anymore? None last week. OH went there again yesterday and they were selling it half price. Apparently people have complained about the Union Jack on the wrapping, saying it makes them uncomfortable as it's a symbol of the far right and offensive. Since when? I thought it was the symbol of Great Britain. They are going to change the wrapping. What is the matter with people nowadays? This is Great Britain, aren't we allowed to be proud of it anymore? The French would never let that happen, they are proud of their country.

It's very sad @Busy-Lizzie, but I can understand why some folk feel uncomfortable with our national symbolism.  There are some places where I see the Union Jack and the Cross of St George flying outside a home, and I know perfectly well it's nothing to do with real patriotism but is being flown as an intimidatory symbol by supporters of the Far Right.  It's horrible.
