It was a very poor dance-off and I agree Kaye looked as tho she just gave up.  I hope Matt follows her off the show in short order and the footballer too.

I suspect viewing figures are down because, outside the dancing, the rest of the formula is getting too repetitive and OTT - all those little set piece interviews before and after they dance plus with those who get voted thru just gets irritating so we record it and then do a lot of FF.

  • Im looking in at the comments, but not watching it this time.
Just had enough of the judges,Tess and Claudia, the "poor me"video clips which are so boring and all the other things that are now being done by the bbc. I will just look at the actual dancing on You Tube.

I suspect a lot of people do the same @Obelixx . I do, and fast forward through the VTs.
Tess has always driven me round the bend with her comments, especially when the judges are speaking.

Anton is a welcome addition to the judge's panel with his (generally) constructive advice, although his marking is a bit OTT. I think he tries to compensate for Craig, who quite frankly is the only one of the rest worth listening to (imo).
The number of times l sit muttering "He's right", while the audience boo like it's a pantomime.

Shirley has an incredible amount of knowledge and experience and started off judging as though she was at a competition, but that was too highbrow for the powers that be, so rather than asking her to simplify it, she's reduced to making comments such as "You're very easy on the eye, very adjudicator friendly" to Will Mellor. I don't think she was only referring to his dancing .

I don't expect to see Come Dancing, it is the 21st century after all and times have moved on, but some of the music choices make it practically impossible for the prescribed dance to be choreographed.

I think Strictly is resting on its laurels and relying on the loyalty of people (like me) who have watched it from day one, (or for some time). It certainly bears no resemblance to those days and l wouldn't really expect it to.

However, l hope the producers take note of the falling viewing figures. As well as most people having far more viewing options these days, ITV seem to have decided to put programmes such as The Masked Dancer and The Voice up against it which have big fan bases of their own. I think years ago they didn't even try.

I will carry on watching (pre recorded), as l still enjoy watching the learning process, the various "'journeys",  the triumphs and disasters on live TV, and the way the celebrities generally embrace the whole experience.

I only watch the dancing and the judging now, for the above reasons. I record it and whizz through the boring bits.

Still an avid fan here.  The VTs are tedious but I quite like seeing the ones of them in training.
Thought Tony Adams was horrific in the 1st week but his dustman routine was funny.  An early contender to leave but I hope Matt Goss goes before him.  I have taken against him for no explicable reason.
There are none that I love yet.

@didyw - I think he's cocky and expected to do well but I don't think he's done enough work or understood what is involved in becoming a good dancer.  I hope by now he's had a rude enough awakening to realise he can't rely on former popularity to get him thru and needs to listen to his professional partner.

OH hopes he stays in cos Nadiya is gorgeous.  Nuff said.

I suspect professionals move on to other things - teaching in their own schools or coaching potential champion amateurs and professionals, choreography for other shows or doing Strictly in another country.
