@Marlorena Your Gallica is looking a darn site better than my two, Tuscany Superb and Charles de Mills. Both have scruffy old leaves clinging on from last year. I thought I would try tying the C de M round an obelisk this year as it got very whippy and floppy last year...do you think it will suit this type of support, and lastly, will all the many new shoots emerging, some more developed than others, produce flowers this year. Many thanks.
@Mr. Vine Eye That's just the look I'm thinking of. Many thanks for sharing and the astrantia is definitely going on the list
@Nollie@newbie77 Thanks for clarifying the apricot tone roses have more variation. I think I'll play safe with pinks as it's not going to be a cheap exercise, although I may consider incorporating an obelisk to give a bit of extra height....if I can find enough loose change down the sofa !!
@peteS ... yes the new shoots should produce blooms for you this summer. ..you should have removed all the old leaves during winter but they will most likely fall off in due course. .. I've not seen it trained on an obelisk before, it's best left to its own devices really, so you will have to manage it as best you can.. Â
I have had a rethink about what to do with my two recently bought DA roses. Olivia will go into a nice big pot.
Gertrude Jekyll however may be different. I am digging a new border and may put her in there. In terms of companions I have a couple of Geranum Rozanne I can put in with her. I also have 2 lovely dark blue lupine. One has been in a pot for a year, and one was going to go in a matching pot, but colour wise these would be good match for GJ and there would be a nice variety of foliage/ texture. My question is- how do Lupine play with roses in terms of disease spreading/ pests/ etc? Would I be creating a rod for my own back?

So many roses. Please repeat the video in June, with scent added!
